    Belina 2 – Episode 20

    Written by Adetola Nissi

Ronke and Pastor Adetutu arrived at the massive building which obviously belongs to Chief Rammon. All through the extensive drive from Abuja to Lagos, Ronke hadn’t been able to stop her racing heart. She was exceedingly grateful to have the pastor with her. She had explained everything to her pastor who had encouraged her to meet the man to confess and give him the remaining money. It had been so simple earlier: arrive at the house, kneel down and cry till she is forgiven and walk out with a light heart and a peaceful smile. Now, staring at the gate, she doubted it would be that simple.

They were let in by the house help and seated at the reception while the girl went in to call the chief, they were lucky to meet him at home. Chief Rammon took one look at Ronke and yelled. He was in front of her in a flash, lifting her with his arms and shaking her like a ragged doll. “You this thief. You have the guts to show your filthy face here. We are going to the police station now” he yelled.

Pastor Adetutu tried to break his hold and finally succeeded after almost two minutes.

His wife appeared before they knew what was happening. “What is going on here?” she asked. Obviously, the chief hadn’t told his wife the truth about what happened. The money Ronke stole had caused serious financial crisis and they had to sell three of their properties and withdraw almost everything in the family account to pay off the debt. He ranted the lie he had told his wife months ago; that Ronke was the one he had given a lift in his car who stole his briefcase. Ronke yelled, stating the fact that everything he said was a lie. She narrated everything that had happened even though the chief tried to cut her shut every now and then. The wrath of his wife turned to him immediately, and for a while, she and the pastor could as well be invisible because they just sat there looking. The pastor settled the raging war between them in order to face the reason why they came.

Ronke knelt down and pleaded. She presented the remaining money. After explaining all the events in her life right from the time she was born; how that she never knew her parents and that she was picked up from the dustbin by a good woman who later died when she was ten, everyone became soft-hearted. She explained that she had since then learnt to survive on her own, depending on men for her food, hereby becoming a harlot since she had no certificate to tender anywhere apart from her school cert. The pastor intervened and explained how she had become born again and had since then stopped spending the stolen money. God used the wife who stated that if her husband gets the girl arrested, she would also file for a divorce. Ronke left the house, not only forgiven and light-hearted but also with some money to start a small business.

The silence that greeted the gun shot was deadly. I was not seeing well, my face was blurry and everyone seemed to have frozen in their various positions. Slowly, like in all those action movies I usually watch at times, I watched as the gun slipped from Oyinade’s hand and landed on the floor with a thud. The fact that no one was talking made the sound louder than usual. Just then, Richard, who had covered me, left my arms to look at what was happening. Suddenly, I was seeing clearly and what I started seeing became confusing.

Oyinade slipped to the floor in pain as she grimaced. She hadn’t even pulled the trigger when she felt a searing pain go through her. Someone emerged from the croud, gun in hand. I looked at the man as I remembered when I had seen the man. It was weeks after I found out that Mr Jegas was my real father. Mr. Badmus, my step-father had introduced him to me as Inspector Sule. He was the one who investigated Tunji’s murder case and detained Mr Badmus as a suspect. They had become friends after the incident and luckily for everyone, Mr. Badmus had invited him for the naming ceremony. How Oyinade had passed the security men we had around to guard the place was still a mystery.

Inspector Sule apparently goes everywhere with a gun and I thanked God and am still thanking God for that attribute. I ran towards my mother-in-law and took my baby with tears in my eyes. Richard came and held me tenderly, whispering comforting words. After some minutes, he went to hold his mum who was trying to be brave but was still physically shaken. Everyone started murmuring at the same time and we watched as Inspector Sule and some of the police officers dragged a hurt Oyinade out of the premises.

“Damn you all, damn you” she yelled with very little strength as she was being dragged out.

Everyone started thanking God, all at once and I decided I had had enough for one day. That such a wonderful day hadn’t been turned to a day of mourning is something I would forever be grateful to God for. I swallowed as Richard kissed my head, kissed little Roland affectionately and led us inside. Family members came inside some minutes later to help us drive away the thought of what just happened. Trust Prisca in such a situation, she made a joke that had everyone laughing. Before we knew it, the incident was almost forgotten. Roland woke up and demanded his food and I excused myself and made for the bedroom. After breast-feeding him, I placed him on the bed, staring at him for sometime. His smile and everything he did fascinated me. I swallowed as I remembered the incident that just occurred, and then something told me that God allowed it. God must have allowed Oyinade to come in order to get her out of the streets and into the net of the police. I felt happy that she would not be bothering us anymore.

“Sweetheart” Richard called as he entered the room. I looked up with a smile as I tried to zip the gown I had changed into. “Let me help you with that” he whispered, coming over to my back to pull the zip.

“I was scared, so scared” I whispered. He turned me around and I faced him. “I was much more scared. Come here” he held me against him affectionately in a tight hug like he was trying to glue us together. “It is all over now”

‘On our wedding day, I never thought we would experience any itch in our marriage. It was so perfect that I felt it would always be like that. But every marriage has its own tests, ours is the issue of children, others can be financial problems or even trust. The most important thing is sticking with God through it all. The devil would always try to scatter a union and he would not come personally but would use agents. Just like I love my Richard, love your husband dearly, even more. It is not enough to love, tell them regularly, show it in your actions. Let the love in your house grow instead of diminish. Whenever something goes wrong, discuss it and trash it out immediately. Don’t keep ANYTHING from your spouse. To all the singles who are in love with someone but their love is not reciprocated, it happens. Don’t try to force your love on them. Love cannot be forced. It comes on its own. If one person does not love you, another person will and would love you more than you can ever imagine but until you see that person, respect yourself. Don’t jump from one man’s bed to the other because you think that abstinence is old-fashioned. Many things happened and would still happen in our family. Even Prisca has gone through so many things in her marriage, no one has a perfect marriage without troubles. Through it all, the most important things are: God, trust and love. With all these, you can overcome all things’. I closed my diary and carried my plate of snacks.

Richard woke up from his nap and came over to join me in the sitting room where I was eating prawn crackers and drinking juice. He grabbed the plate from my arms and stuffed his mouth with prawn crackers.

I scoffed. “That was unfair” I tried to collect the plate from him but he would not give it up.

“Are you the only one that loves enjoyment?” He asked with a cynical smile. I finally gave up and resigned to lie on the chair, with my head on his lap. He fed me crackers and fed himself also.

“Roland is still asleep?” I asked and he nodded. I shook my head and sighed. “That is good. He hasn’t given me a minute of rest. I am sure he took his crying habit from you” I said.

Richard scoffed. “Definitely not. I was as gentle as a dove” he said defensively.

“Dove? I barely had two hours of sleep when I was nursing you” we heard Richard’s mum say, approaching us. She had been in our house for about a week now, since the naming. My mum is still around and has been around before I delivered, to monitor me, being my first child. I was very grateful to have both women around. My mother-in-law has proved to be the best woman to have as your mother-in-law and I am very happy everything is settled between her and Richard.

I smiled at Richard. “Told you” I murmured victoriously.

Richard’s eyes rotated from his mum to me. “I feel a conspiracy here. The ladies in this house are conspiring against the men.”

I laughed. “Just accept the fact that you were a big mouthed crying baby”

He frowned. “Definitely not”. I laughed heartily.

“Well, let me leave you two to your argument. I am hungry” she marched into the kitchen.

I looked at Richard with a smile on my face. He threw his hands up in surrender. “Well, poor you. You would have to deal with many big mouthed crying babies. What are we going to do about that?” he looked sympathetic.

I sighed. “Nothing, fortunately”. We laughed at our little drama.

“Honey, what do you think about having a business of your own? I mean, being in BRP would not be very convenient for you now that there is a baby but if you have a private business like Prisca does, you would enjoy yourself and also have enough time to yourself and Roland; also the other big mouthed crying children on the way.”

I shook my head as I stared at him. “You know the problem with having two sisters marry two best friends, they all think the same way”.

He shook his head, “This has nothing to do with them baby”. I smiled. I had thought of it, only I did not mention it. My assistant in BRP Hospital is doing a good job.

“Is your account full enough to accommodate what I have in mind? It would be very capital intensive” I said, sitting up with a grin on my face. He squared his shoulders, adjusted his body hugging top to present the posture of a rich man.

“Try me”. I laughed and hugged him.

“Thank you darling” I whispered kissing him all over his face. He looked at me and I knew where this was going.

“I was thinking of something else to deliver your appreciation” he whispered.

I raised my brow. “Hmmm… I guess we could really do something before your son wakes up” I breathed. Roland’s piercing cry rang out just then and I smiled faintly. “I guess not” and ran to the room, leaving Richard to brood over his loss.

I left Richard’s office dazed. I should be celebrating my pregnancy but how do you cope when what you love the most is in danger of being yanked away from you. I was trying to piece up an explanation for what I had just seen but none of the conclusions I arrived at made sense. Only one thing seemed logical and could be a possibility. I was just a few steps away from Richard’s office when I saw Prisca approaching me with a questioning look but the look seemed to disappear when she saw my countenance.

“How did it go?” she asked. Before she could catch her breath, I pulled her into Richard’s office, closing the door firmly behind us. We sat down without a word and I gave her Richard’s phone. She looked at the phone for a while, and then looked at me.

“I don’t understand this. When did this happen?” she asked, confronting me directly.

I stood up and paced the room slowly, trying to gather my thoughts together. “The time I bumped into Kelvin should be a week ago. No, wait. It was yesterday”, I said. I expected that the misunderstanding between Richard and I had reached a week, thinking about all the numerous things which had happened but the reality is that, it is just a day old. I had checked the day the message was sent and saw that it was the previous day.

Prisca was waiting for me to continue. “What were you doing with Kelvin, Bell? You don’t still have feelings for him, do you?”

My head jerked in her direction. “Definitely not. Whatever I felt for him died the day I saw him with that harlot. Most times I wonder if my feelings for him was actually love because I can truly say I love Richard and what I feel for Richard is nothing compared to what I felt for Kelvin.”

“OK” she breathed. “Then tell me what actually happened because I don’t see myself hugging Frank if I see him today.” Frank was her boyfriend; the one who almost raped her.

“I was on my way home earlier than usual yesterday because I felt terribly weak when I had a flat tire. It was so surprising because I just changed my tires barely a week ago. I couldn’t get a mechanic so I set about doing it myself. All of a sudden, Kelvin showed up. He did not leave until I allowed him fix the tires. I was about entering my car when he suddenly blocked me, causing me to bump into him. All he said was that he wanted us to have a drink together and familiarize with each other. I declined, explaining that I am a married woman and so on. I left him there and DID NOT hug him” I concluded.

Prisca thought for a while. “My guess is that someone took a picture of you guys when you bumped into him”.

“I have thought of that but what I don’t know is who would have done it. Did Richard put someone on my trail?” I thought aloud.

“I would not say that. I would say that Kelvin asked someone to do that for one singular reason; the same reason that brought him to your office today” she said standing up.

“What? He was here? When?” I queried, surprised and alarmed.

“some hours ago. I guess you were on the hospital bed then. He got what he hadn’t expected though; Richard met him there and asked men to bundle him out” she replied.

I was becoming more confused by the minute. Richard had received this message yesterday but did not say anything about it. I remembered his countenance yester night and knew that he must have seen it. He also saw Kelvin today but did not mention it. Why on earth would he do that?

    **********

    **********

Loretta paced the waiting room holding her head in her hands. Apart from the several abortions which she had done, she hasn’t literally killed anyone before. She still couldn’t replay the scenario. How did she get herself into this mess? Her tears flowed ceaselessly. She had called James Branson and informed him because she didn’t know what to do and she needed someone here to hold her hands and tell her it would be alright.

She saw Richard pass in a hurry towards the emergency department and her heart skipped a beat. What would he do if he found out after treating the guy that she was the one who put the guy in that condition? It would just make their relationship more complicated, hence, destroying any hope of re-union between them. More tears flowed unhindered as her heart ached.

“Loretta” she heard James call behind her. She turned and threw herself in James’ hands, needing all the support she could get. James just held on to her, his heart beating faster than normal, whispering words of encouragements. His eyes snapped up just in time to see Richard head in the direction of his office, furiously, through the glass barrier. Loretta also saw this and left his arms instantly.

“he must have found out that I brought him and refused to treat him” she exclaimed, holding her head fiercely. James could not see that happening. Richard would not hold someone’s life ransom just because of Loretta; Richard is not like that. Maybe Richard is angry about something else, besides, he wasn’t even sure Richard would be the one to attend to the guy in question. He has so many doctors in his hospital. Guessing is not an option, though. He did not like seeing Loretta so distressed, no matter what she had done to him.

“I would talk to him” he said, walking in the direction of Richard’s office. Loretta followed briskly. He tried dissuading her but she was hell bent on begging Richard herself.

    **********

    **********

Richard marched into the office and I was startled, Prisca also. He should not be back by now, I thought. He had left barely ten minutes ago, and knowing how long such emergency cases could be, only one thing could have happened.

I rushed to him as he sat on the couch. “What is wrong honey? Is the patient Ok?” I asked hoping that whoever it was is not dead. Richard just fixed a permanent glare on his face and I could not understand anything again. Just then, the door opened and my father-in-law came in, accompanied by the last person Richard wanted to see – his mother. He was up in an instant.

“Is the devil bent on making what ought to be my happiest day very miserable? What are you doing here?” he asked, glaring at his mum.

I held his hand. “C’mon Richy-” I was saying

“Don’t touch me” he yelled at me and I shrieked. He has never done that. I was hurt down to my bones. I detest people yelling at me, it reminds me of one person: Mr Badmus, before he changed.

“Son” Mr. Branson started. “Could you please put this behind you and save the dying patient Richard? He was hit by Loretta and she is freaking out now. Please son, he had nothing to do with what your mum did, don’t let him pay for it” he concluded.

Richard glared at his mum for a while, and then faced me. “You are right dad. He has nothing to do with my problem with mum but he has something to do with my crumbling family. The guy that was hit is Kelvin”

“What?” Prisca and I yelled. I jumped out of my seat in an instant. “What is going on here Richard? You are leaving him to die because he is my Ex?” I could not believe it.

He shook his head. “No. I am not leaving him to die. The other doctors are with him but I cannot save someone who just threatened to bring us down some hours ago. I also got the message where you were with him, holding him affectionately. What do you think I would feel”?

Loretta left the place she had been since she came in and knelt down before anybody could stop her. “Please Richard, save the guy. I don’t know what you have with him but please don’t let him die, please. You may decide not to forgive me for what I did to you but please save him.” She said in tears even though everyone tried to get her up. Prisca and I finally got her to her feet.

I looked at Richard more closely and I could see him fighting a battle within himself. He was distressed and I could understand his reluctance. I carefully asked everyone to excuse both of us and within seconds, we were alone. I didn’t even know how to deal with things now that we were alone. I just stared at him.

    **********

Ronke smashed her phone on the floor in frustration. All their chances were now destroyed. She had told Oyin to keep things cool but she wouldn’t listen. They had sent the message earlier than planned. She had specifically told Oyin that they would have to change the position and atmosphere in the picture they had taken of Kelvin and Belina before sending it to Richard but Oyin was too damn impatient. If they had edited the image with computer; thanks to the highly developed technology; they would have been able to put Belina and Kelvin in a compromising position, probably naked, kissing or something a bit stronger than a mere hug. Now Belina is pregnant. She hissed and poured herself another glass of drink.

If Oyin had been patient enough, she might have even gotten Richard to doubt the paternity of the child. But now, that is totally out of the question. She had placed a lot of hopes on the success of this thing.

“I am not going to rest for nothing. If Oyin can’t get money from that guy for me, she would have to get it anywhere else if she wants to keep her secret” she said to herself. Maybe it is time for some blackmail.

    **********

    **********

Prisca had left Loretta and Mr Branson immediately she left Belina and Richard alone. She saw that ‘harlot doctor’ enter an office which she assumed was hers. she felt an instant urge and desire to confront her and that is what she would do, she thought. she got to the office and luckily for her, no one was there. she was about to knock when she heard the lady in the office talk to someone on the phone. she would not have bothered if she hadn’t heard Belina’s name in the conversation.

“The plan is ruined” she heard her say. “That Belina of a woman is pregnant”… “How am i supposed to know that?”… silence followed.

Prisca did not know the full detail of what must have happened between Richard and Belina but one thing was definitely sure, she would find out what this woman have been up to.

She entered the office like a predator. Oyinade looked back, not knowing who had entered but on seeing her, she seemed to know who she is – Belina’s sister.

“You know what Missy? i think we need to have a little chat” Prisca said, sitting down comfortably and crossing her legs.

    Belina 2 – Episode 8

    Written by Adetola Nissi

I left work very early on Tuesday, two weeks after my adventure at the beach. The work must be taking its toll on me because I was feeling physically weak. My physical weakness was not going to stop me from going to church but I wanted some time to rest so I left earlier than usual. Informing Richard did not cross my mind because all I wanted was going home, having a shower and sleeping.

I entered my car and zoomed out of the hospital premises on top speed. I was just about a half way through the journey when I noticed the flat tire at the driver’s side of the car. I must have skipped it in my rush because it was at zero level. This struck me as odd and strange because I just had the tires changed a week ago.

This is frustrating, I thought as I parked beside the road to see what I can do. What does a girl know about a mechanic’s job? I dialed my mechanic but his number was switched off. I did not sight any roadside mechanic so I did what anyone in my situation would do – do the job myself.

I got out my spare tire from the boot, my jack and wheel spanner. Just as I was going about my business, a car parked in front of mine but I was beyond caring. I placed the jack under the car and started pumping it in order to lift the car.

“Who do we have here?” I heard behind me and the voice registered immediately I heard it.

I turned slowly and saw the very person who owned the voice. “what are you doing here, Kelvin?” I asked surprised that he was actually there and even more surprised that I could recollect his voice.

“I was just driving by and saw you. I don’t need to look twice to recognize you, even in the dark.” He responded with a smile which I found increasingly annoying by the minute.

“That’s great. You can go now, after all, you can see that I am busy”. I said and continued my work.

“No” he responded sharply. “I can’t possibly leave you here to do this. I am sure you don’t have the slightest idea about what you are doing. Don’t let me pass the chance to save a damsel in distress, especially when the damsel is you. What happened between us should be in the past now. We are Christians”. He said and with feeling? I can’t believe it.

I looked at him feeling slightly irritated. He gently shoved me aside and took over the job without permission. I folded my hands across my chest as I watched him fix the tire almost effortlessly. Something told me that this is no chance meeting and I kept that thought at the back of my mind.

He was through about 15 minutes later and I thanked him for his help but he blocked me unexpectedly as I made to enter my car, causing me to bump into him. I righted myself and faced him with a questioning glare and he backed down.

“I just… I just thought we could have a drink nearby, you know, to catch up on lost time” he said.

“Oh… I don’t think it would be a good idea. You know, having people see us together might create a wrong impression and I would like to avoid that. I am happily married and I don’t want rumours getting in the way of my happily ever after. Seeing that you are not wearing a wedding ring, it suggests that you are not married, so it is best to stay away from your Ex in order to encourage ladies to look in your direction. Besides, we are Christians, right? Thanks again and have a nice day” I said in one breath and before he could think of stopping me, I was already in my car with the doors firmly locked. I pulled out and headed home.

Oyinade moved confidently towards Richard’s office to give a report about some patients. Her dressing would be described as anything but descent. Her skirt was tight enough to display the enormous load she was carrying and her shirt was not able to withhold the overflow of flesh and her cleavage was in public display. She had decided that the foreplay was long overdue; she needed to get what she wanted.

Richard raised his eyes when she entered and his eyes seemed to linger a bit more than they usually did, she noted with satisfaction. She did not wait for permission before she sat down, crossing her legs in front of her. Richard noticed all these gestures but did not say a word. She set about her job, using her most fascinating voice and trying to be as accountable as possible. When she was done, all she heard was, “Alright, you can leave now” from her boss.

She stood up slowly and was at the door when she heard Richard calling her. She smiled victoriously but faced Richard looking indifferent. For the first time, Richard faced her fully. It was as if he was seeing her for the very first time.

“Why are you dressed so indecently?” he asked suddenly. Oyin was speechless. That was not the question she was expecting.

“You have to always remember that this is a hospital and not a hotel. If you wish to remain in this hospital, holding the position you presently are, you would have to dress moderately. Do you understand me?” he said with seriousness written all over him.

Oyinade’s throat became thick. She could not stand the humiliation. She muttered her apologies and vanished to her office where she cried tears of disgrace and annoyance. She picked up her phone and dialed Ronke’s number.

“Carry out plan B now” she ordered immediately Ronke picked.

“What is the matter again girl, that is not our plan” she heard over the receiver.

“I don’t give a damn. Do it now” she yelled and the line went dead. She started pacing the office in anger

    **********

    **********

Richard could not understand the ploy of his assistant. She had been exceptional with her work ever since she came but he could not fathom why she would dress so exposing. He had noticed it the previous day and kept quiet but seeing it repeat itself today sent a warning signal. It was as though she was bent on seducing him or someone else. He hadn’t meant to embarrass her the way he did but he could not think of a better way to present it if he wanted a change. Men are not stones and if he could control himself, he could not say the same about the other guys in the hospital. Belina had disapproved of her immediately she saw her for reasons he could not understand but he knew that she always trusted her instincts and her judgements are often correct.

His Phone beeped notifying him that he had a message and he stopped what he was doing to check it. He also wanted to call his wife to find out how she was feeling, so in a hurry, he opened the message but what he saw gave him a chill. It was not terribly bad but he still could not imagine it. He read the message and enlarged the picture attached to it. The sender of the message was not identified but that was not his problem. He stood up from his chair immediately and left his office.

    **********

    **********

I lay in the bathtub feeling slightly better than before. The warm water made my nerves settle and I felt good within few seconds. Remembering my encounter with Kelvin, I scrubbed my body clean because I didn’t want to have anything to do with him. We are Christians, I remembered him say. And so what? Was he not a Christian when he tried to have his way with me, knowing fully well that we were not married yet? Was he not a Christian when he got that harlot to his bed, thinking he would be able to persuade me with that ridiculous act? He must be out of his mind if he thinks he can come between me and my husband.

All these went through my mind as I rinsed, toweled and left the bathroom. I remembered that Richard always became slightly edgy whenever Kelvin’s name came up in a discussion. He hated what Kelvin did to me and always emphasized his desire to punch the daylight out of his guts for what he did to me. Thinking of Richard, I remembered that I did not tell him I would leave the hospital early. I was about reaching for my phone when it rang. The number I.D was hidden and I hesitated. I did not pick up the first time but the call was repeated. I picked and placed the phone on my ear without speaking.

“Hello” I heard a female voice say over the receiver.

“Yes? Who am I speaking with?” I asked

“Please, is this Mrs Belina Branson?” she asked instead of answering my own question.

    “Yes. Who is this please?”

“I would like to remain anonymous ma. I love you so much and I have read a lot about you and what you have been through. Your story is very touching and inspring. I know you but you don’t know me. I admire your inner and outer beauty and that is why I am not happy with what your husband is doing ma”.

I was surprised. “What are you talking about” I asked curiously.

“Your husband is cheating on you ma” I heard her say.

“What?” I yelled. “You must have someone else in mind. I am sure of it” I said confidently already feeling irritated.

“No ma’am. He is cheating on you with the lady working with him; that lady with huge buttocks and breasts. Believe me ma, I usually see them together and I even saw them kissing one day in the eatery not so far away from the hospital. I know you would not believe me but remember, I warned you”.

“Who are you and who sent you?” I yelled but the line was already dead.

I stared at the phone still wondering what was going on. I was beside myself with rage. The girl sounded sincere but I couldn’t see myself believing a word she said. I remembered that I had felt an instant dislike towards that Oyinade girl when I saw her over a week ago but I could not place my finger on what the problem was. I had told Richard what I felt but he had defended her saying that her work had been impeccable since she entered BRH. I knew my instinct was almost always right but could my earlier anxiety have anything to do with Richard. He hadn’t given me any reason to doubt him and his love for me since I met him so why should I doubt him now? Could he cheat on me?

    **********

    **********

Richard got to BRP Hospital and on getting to Belina’s office; he was informed that she was already out. He knew that the cloth she wore was the same with the one in the picture but he could not imagine her seeing that despicable guy for whatever reason. He knew calling her would be bad because he might accuse her, which would be unfair since she hadn’t given him cause to doubt her love for him. He knew she could not cheat on him especially with that guy but he could not understand this; plus he was her first love. He rubbed the back of his palm against his forehead. Who even sent it? He wondered since there was no I.D.

He went back to the office and saw Tony waiting for him. He invited him in without the usual hugs and funny guy to guy chats.

“What’s eating you bro? You look distant and pale” Tony asked immediately they were on seat.

Richard sighed. “Its… personal” he replied.

“Personal” Tony repeated and laughed. “Since when did you start having personal issues that I can’t hear about?”

Richard stared for a while then stretched his phone towards Tony. Tony scrolled through and saw a message with the words, “check this out”. Below it, he saw a photo of Belina and a guy in what seemed to be a hug.

“Oh… I see… Jealousy is eating you up. It is just a hug man, nothing more. He must be her friend. You know Belina better than that” Tony said confidently.

“Yes. It is just a hug, only he is not her friend. That is Kelvin. Her ex. Her first love” Richard lamented.

“Ok, calm down” Tony said, looking at the picture again.

“I don’t get it. I know she despises him, so what is she doing with him?” Richard said standing up.

“Well, since you know her, you should not doubt her faithfulness. It would be unfair to accuse her wrongly pal, she may never forgive you. If you ask me, this does not look like a proper hug”. He said inspecting the picture again.

“But it is definitely something, right?” he retorted.

“Who sent it? Or are you keeping tabs on her?”

“definitely not. I also don’t know who sent it. The number is hidden”

Tony stood up and went to meet Richard where he was, by the window, looking outside. “You guys have come a long way. You are married. Not just a new couple but you are two years into the marriage. You should know that people are jealous of the relationship and love you have both maintained till now and they want to destroy it. Don’t allow them. I would advice you to take this out of your mind. I am very sure that Belina loves you and would not hurt your feelings this way. I can vouch for her” Tony said.

Richard smiled faintly. “Thanks man” he said honestly, feeling better. “Not a word of this to Prisca, please” he said as an afterthought and Tony nodded.

Richard lay on the couch with his head on my lap. I toyed with the little hair he had as we discussed the movie we were watching. Just then, someone arrived at the door and judging from the voices I heard, I knew exactly who was there. I rushed there to open the door.

“Hey Pric, what a surprise, I am so happy”, I said hugging her. I gave Tony a brief hug too and felt someone tugging at my cloth.

    “Aunty Beyina, aunty Beyina”

I looked down. “Oh you little lolly, come here” I said and lifted a giggling Patricia into my arms. I kissed her cheeks and tickled her.

“She has been calling your names all week. How are you guys?” Prisca said sitting down.

“Well, we were having a sitting room honeymoon before you arrived” Richard said with a smiling face.

“Woah, I hate to feel we disturbed you guys. You can continue while we watch” Tony said and we laughed.

I looked at them. “Well you all look good in your shorts and small tops especially my little lolly here, where are you going to?” I asked

“Well, we were off to the beach for a little fun so we decided to stop over to see if you would love to come along”

“We definitely are coming along, right honey?” I said with a look in Richard’s direction.

“Uhhh… no” he said with a suspicious frown then slowly smiled. “Of course we are going. It’s been a long week and a wonderful time at the beach is perfect”, he said and got up dragging me along with him to the room to have a change of clothes.

Kelvin left his abode despite the inner battle he was fighting. He told himself that it was best to have nothing to do with Belina but he neglected that voice in his head. He had received that phone call about five days ago and hadn’t been able to rest from a strange lady whose name he could not remember. She had called on Monday evening, mentioned her name which he forgot immediately, and talked about things that were none of his business. He already had his thumb on the red button of his phone when he heard her mention the name he had tried hard to erase from his memory. His interests had been pricked and, try as he may, he could not turn down the offer of meeting the lady in person. Though, she did not mention the real reason for calling, he surely wanted to find out as long as it had to do with Belina.

The very day she had got married, about two years ago, he had drunk himself to stupor knowing that he had lost a good woman. He was finding it hard with women because he always compared them with her. His hatred for Richard Branson grew at an alarming rate but there was nothing he could do against a public figure. ‘I don’t even have any rights over her’, he thought.

He arrived at Da Queens Hotel and asked for Room 45, following the instructions sent to him via text. He was at the door barely two minutes later and he gave the door a slight pat. The door flung open and directly before him stood two exceedingly tempting ladies.

His eyes roamed their bodies hungrily. “Hello ladies” he said breathlessly.

They smiled and invited him to the bed to sit. He cautioned himself and put up a passive front.

“Can you make this weird meeting as fast as possible? I have an appointment”, he said.

Oyinade moved in her micro-mini gown to the chair opposite Kelvin, sat down and crossed her leg intentionally. Kelvin’s breath became caught in his throat and he diverted his eyes towards another direction; a wrong choice of direction because the other was virtually naked. He had had enough.

He jumped to his feet instantly. “What is the meaning of all these? Did you call me here to be seduced?”

Not the reaction I was expecting, Oyin thought as she said calmly. “We are not seducing you, you are probably imagining things. Please sit and let’s get down to business”. She said.

“Then, make it snappy”, he said sitting down forcefully.

Oyin removed a piece of paper and handed it over to him. “Everything is written there. I don’t want to say it because the walls have ears”.

Kelvin scanned the paper and looked up. “You girls must be crazy. I won’t do this to her, and even if I tried, she won’t make it possible. She despises me and even if she didn’t, I won’t do this to her” he said with a straight face.

For the first time that evening, Ronke spoke. “Oh c’mon, we all know that you are in love with her. Yes, you offended her but you apologized right? Everyone needs a second chance. All we are asking is that you try to get her back while she also tries to get Richard back. As you have read, Richard was her boyfriend some years ago and she loves him so much and wants to get him back. I am sure Belina still loves you because you are her first love, you just have to try”, she said. Amazing what the mixture of lies can do.

Kelvin was silent; probably thinking. Oyinade decided to back her up. “I am sure she would accept you back, with the right approach. I am also willing to pay you five hundred thousand if you accept”

Kelvin looked up. “The money is too small, do I look broke to you?” he said slowly.

“We don’t have more money”, Oyin said impatiently.

“Let’s make another deal. I take the money and bed both of you together four times for a month, meaning once a week. Do we have a deal?” he said hoping that this would make them change their minds.

Oyinade looked at Ronke who was busy with her phone. Getting a signal, she looked at Kelvin and said. “Deal”

We strolled on the beach enjoying the fresh air. We decided to leave the water play for the last activity as we chatted, laughed and made jests of one another, coconut drinks in hand. The coconut water itself which is sold at the beach is so fun drinking when you have straw inserted in it.

A horse man came in our direction pulling two horses. He must have sighted us from afar and decided to make some money out of two wonderful couples.

“good evening ladies and gentlemen” he said approaching us. “Would you like a ride?”

“as long as it is free” Tony said jovially and we all laughed slightly, including the horseman.

Richard looked at me slightly. “Well we would definitely like one” he said to the man, looking at me.

“What? You know I have never been on one. It could throw me over or something. I could break my neck, my legs or even my… my back” I said nervously.

He smiled. “Don’t worry sugar, you would not even break a nail, I assure you” he responded. “Let us have one” he said to the man and took one. Before I even thought of protesting, I was already off the ground and was on the horse’s back. I looked stupefied as I stared at Richard on the sand.

“You can’t be serious” I said.

“Don’t be scared now babe, I am here with you” he said and got behind me. His closeness did two things to me – it made me feel protected but it also made my heartbeat increase its tempo, not from fear though. His closeness always made me feel nervous. Tony and Prisca were already ahead of us with Patricia in Prisca’s firm grip.

Richard, fully aware of the effects he had on me, moved even closer making my breath ragged. I felt his smile even without seeing him and I was slightly upset but I knew everything he was doing also had its effects on him too.

“Shall we go sweetheart?” he asked and I nodded nervously and vowed to retaliate. I moved backwards intentionally, relaxing fully in his chest and he trembled slightly; my senses told me it was not from the breeze.

“I need to focus honey, you are not making it easy” he said. I smiled. I placed my hands on his legs tenderly without warning and the horse stopped moving abruptly. I was shocked initially but later started laughing. He is not so powerful after all. He breathed deeply and said matter-of-factly, “that was not so funny”.

I laughed more. “It is good to retaliate”

He scoffed. “That is not the behaviour of a good Christian”

“What? I beg to differ my prince, I am sure this section in the husband to wife relationship is excluded” I said with a grin. “You can do everything to make me edgy and you expect me to fold my hands and accept it all?”

“I was planning on teaching you how to ride a horse but you are not making it easy for me.” He said moving his palm through my hair. The horse resumed its catwalk again and I tried to focus on everything he was saying about how to propel a horse to movement. We caught up with Tony and Prisca who seemed to be having a wonderful time. The horse moved close to the water and it seemed like I would be deposited in it. I told Richard and he smiled, reduced my fear by moving away from the water. He stopped and looked at me. I craned my head backwards to look into his eyes.

    “Did you enjoy yourself honey?”

“Yeah, a lot. But for the record, I would rather not ride with you next time”

He laughed. “Don’t tell me I have that much effect on you” he said coyly.

“Of course not” I said looking away.

“Uhn”. Richard enclosed my mouth with his and my guard was thrown overboard. We kissed for a while and when he released me, I was slightly dizzy. He kissed my cheeks and my forehead, gazing into my eyes.

“I think I would rather ride with you next time” I said and he grinned.

“What about a race?” we heard Tony say. We had forgotten totally about them but they were also too involved with each other to even notice us.

“That’s perfect” I heard Richard say but Prisca and I started protesting until they put us down in order to satisfy their own desires. I took Pat from Prisca and said, “I think it is good this way, I want to talk to you about something Pric”

“Girl, what do you think about Richard’s mother?” I asked Pric as we watched strolled on the beautiful sand of the beach.

“Sorry Lina but I don’t like her one bit. She has no right whatsoever to come after Richard after so many years. I am sorry to say this but she is just a gold-digger.” She said in one breath.

I sighed. “I don’t know if I am being stupid but I want to re-unite Richard with his mother”

“That is ridiculous. To me, that woman is more harm than good. The earlier he forgot about her, the better for everyone, including you.”

She might be right, I thought. The woman is a bad influence and having heard so much about Mother-in-laws, I was not sure I would like to have one. But am I not being selfish?

    Life After The Wedding

    Belina 2 – Episode 1

    Written by Adetola Nissi

My wedding night was the best night of my entire life, one that I would never forget even when I am 100 years old. It was terrific, superb and altogether, mind-blowing. Asides the love, care and pampering, Richard gave me a brand new BMW car as his wedding gift to me. I had never driven a car so Richard made it his responsibility to teach me. I, on the other hand gave Richard a priceless gift which cannot be purchased with hard currencies. I had been extremely scared and nervous that night as I changed into a small lingerie dress in the matrimonial bathroom. Prisca had asked me to purchase that blazing red seductive lingerie for this particular time and now that I had it on, I was scared to death. My hair was let loose around my shoulders and I summoned enough courage to step out of the bathroom. My breath was taken away instantly as I stared at what was before me; the room was softly lightened with red light which transformed everything in the room, giving the room a highly charged romantic atmosphere. I felt shaky instantly but the room was not the reason; Richard sat on the bed with his shirt unbuttoned looking breathtaking. It was always almost impossible to resist him, he is so masculine and during our courtship, it took a lot of self-control from my end to keep us from going overboard especially when we were alone. Looking at Richard now with his muscle-filled chest fully exposed to my hungry eyes made my fingers tingle and I could not help but feel protected with him around. I returned from my reverie (illusion) and noticed that he was already on his feet and with the way his eyes bore into me, I instantly felt self conscious. I remembered my look even without looking at myself and all I wanted was to escape from the room in order to breathe properly. I started picking my manicured fingernails furiously; something I do whenever I am very nervous. Richard must have noticed this cos he slowly moved towards me. Every step he took made me more nervous and my eyes left my fingers to my toes.

“You err, *coughs* you look dishy”, Richard said breathlessly.

I nodded, unable to say anything at the moment. He moved closer and raised my chin; I was unable to meet his eyes and he smiled softly.

“I won’t do anything if you don’t want me to, heart”, he said softly.

“It’s… it’s not that. It’s just, I am scared and nervous. I don’t even know what to do”, I said in a fainted voice looking at his chest.

“Just be yourself honey, I am fine with that”.

I looked into his eyes and smiled shakily, “I don’t even know how to do that”.

He laughed a little, “why don’t we both follow our hearts? Right now, I just want to devour you”, he said teasingly and slowly lowered his lips against mine.

My heart beat accelerated and in a few seconds, my shyness was out of the window and our instincts took over. Everything after then was magical and exquisite but what I would never forget was the look in his eyes when he severed the barrier guarding my purity. It was a look of extreme surprise, adoration and respect. He had asked me twice during our courtship but I had changed the subject both times because I wanted it to be a surprise and my gift to him. With the look in his eyes, I felt on top of the world and I thanked the Lord in my heart for helping me hold on till this time.

    **********

It is our second year anniversary and our palace-like sitting room is filled with people ranging from parents, siblings, colleagues, friends and so on. It had been a splendid two years journey and I was so greatful to God for the man I married. I married my husband. Love truly is something everyone should have because there is no happiness that can rival the one you feel when someone loves you with all his heart and you love him in return.

I moved from one person to another, welcoming them in my exquisite gown. My parents, Richard’s dad, Tony and Prisca, Prisca’s brothers who were also my step brothers, Mr Badmus and family; and a host of others were present. I felt so loved and honored to have all of them with me.

Best Results Hospital (BRH) had now risen from being the best in Lagos state to being the best in Nigeria. Its branches now spread across the entire country maintaining its headquarters in Lagos. Tony decided to stand on his own two months after our wedding after much planning and his own hospital is now making waves. Due to the fame and connectivity of my husband including of course my exemplary work in BRH as the great psychologist, I was now a regular face in the papers, blogs, TV programmes and what have you. A separate building has been devoted to handle Psychological cases due to expansion and regular demands for my attention. I loved it because I did not really fancy working together with my husband in the same building – we would be doing more personal stuff at work… lolzz.

One thing seems to be the problem though…

“Pat, stop it …… Pat …….” Prisca said as she moved quickly to grab the breakable furniture with her one year old daughter. The one year and three months old Patricia is the exact replica of a doll. She has excess beauty thanks to her parents, and just like her mother, she has hair as black as midnight. She is very lively and energetic that you miss her when she is not around.

Prisca replaced the furniture and carried Pat the way only a mother can. I could not contain my envy. Though two years is nothing compared to the stories I hear from people, I still feel like I have spent a whooping ten years without a child. Bloggers did not miss this emblem thus the numerous rumors and gossips.

I threw away my blind jealousy and took Patricia from Prisca, she is just so adorable. By carrying her, I have a feeling that my child is on the way. Richard noticed my mood-swing and came to hold me affectionately. Everyone started ranting about the display of love not noticing my mood. Just when the party was about to begin, the door creaked open and before me stood a stunning woman who should be in her mid-fifties. Everyone turned towards her and Richards mood took a downturn.

“What are you doing here?” he yelled
