    Delayed – Episode 10

    Weekend is around the corner yet Stanley is in the midst of confusion. He is yet to know if to go or not, thanks to Promise who try to bring him out of his confused world. 

    Truly a friend in need is a friend indeed, just as God would have it planned out Promise too refused to go except his friend accompany him. Promise who has been used to being the one following his boss doesn’t want to make a mistake and then be fired when he comes back to the office, he just loves walking around with his friend. 

    A day to the white wedding a strong sensation overpowered his confusiopn and he found himself making up his mind to go. He had this strong feeling that by attending the wedding, that there his wife will be. 

    God used this means to let him know that he has heard his silent prayer.

    “Would it be God whom has made Promise adamant on insisting going with me too?” He soliloquised

    The next thing he picked his phone and dialed Promise number to inform him of his readiness to go.

    “Hello..”

    “Yes what is it this time boss? Look, if it’s not office work don’t beg me to go for that wedding o. I don’t want to go again, I would rather stay with my fiancee, besides it’s been awhile since I set my eyes on her…” Promise said without waiting for Stanley to speak first.

    “Hmm, this guy when will you stop being  childish! well, I didn’t call you to start arguing with you just get ready we are going for tomorrow’s wedding, that’s if you are till interested. I don’t entertain lateness don’t forget..” he said and ended the call.

    “Wait…who is this guy that he will do as he pleases with me” putting his hands at akimbo, but what o! did I hear him right? Did he just said I should get ready for tomorrow’s wedding…? that’s strange but am glad Sha..” he said

    Stanley started preparing himself beforehand so as to enable him have the right outfit. From his designers shoes, clothes and wristwatches, he has to select which would be ok for the days color. 

    There is this inner happiness he feels within him after he made up his mind on going, he can’t just explain it!

    Meanwhile Grace and Jane have been awake talking about the wedding and praying too. They prayed for a successful wedding and inturn grace prayed that Jane’s husband should meet her at her wedding. 

    It was an amazing moment between the two friends. 

    Jane used the opportunity to encourage and advice her friend on the journey she is about to enter and promised to always be there for her whenever she needs her. 

    From a happy moment, the atmosphere turned to be an emotional one, they cried and laughed at their expression.

    “In my next world babe, you will always be my best friend and my Chief! I love you, I love all that you do for me Jane. You are such a sweet soul…” Grace said hugging her Chief brides maid tight and Jane inturn replied with a warm hug 

    “I love you more baby girl…just be good as you have always been alright? God will be with you just as he has always been. 

    “…Tomorrow is the day you will say your ‘i do’ to your husband and I won’t be happy when you are saying that with a sleeping eyes, so let’s get some sleep…” She advised and they both slept in preparation for tomorrow’s day.

    Some say marriage 💍 or having a child is the best thing that could ever happen to a man but still not every man can handle the pressure and consequences that comes with it. The moment I found out Christen was pregnant, I knew I was in for a long bumpy ride and because of that there are two things I needed the most which were tolerance and patience. Women to be honest are troublesome and nerve wrecking creatures and one has to be both tolerant and patience with them, being with an ordinary woman is trouble enough but a witch that’s a whole different level.

    Ever since she announced she was pregnant, Christen has been given me a hard time, she was bossy, pushy and and worst of all arrogant.. Though the baby bump hasn’t yet shown Christen insisted on enjoying herself and relaxing, what surprised me was instead of getting chubbier or having signs of pregnancy like other women do, she gets more younger, lovelier, and attractive everyday plus her body gets more and more seductive and luscious whenever I see her, I was hoping to get laid with her but Christen never allows me to make love to her, I could kiss and touch but when it comes to sex, that’s a no entry zone. I tolerated all this and endured her bullshit.

    As if that wasn’t enough, Christen started getting a little bit disturbing, a week after I found out she was expecting, She insisted that I leave my house and come to hers and stay, she claimed that she was defenseless and needed a man to protect her and the baby.. I knew she was just messing with me cause she could handle a regiment of soldiers without breaking a sweat.. So eventually, I moved in to her house but that wasn’t enough, Clinging on to her pregnancy, she made me do the entire house work, I would sweep, clean, and wash, Hell in the end, I became a house boy,.. Even when we went to shop for yoghurt milks and honey jars in supermarkets, I was left to carry everything , but despite all that, she still gave me my respect as a Fiancee.

    But the real drama starts whenever we both sleep together in bed, sometimes in the middle of the night around 1:00 am, Christen would wake me up and tell me that she was hungry and in need of food.

    .

    Christen ➡ Honey… Wake up!

    .

    Riley ➡ Huh??? What’s wrong?

    .

    Christen ➡ I’m hungry…

    .

    Riley ➡ Now? But you just drank 5 bottles of milk and 2 jars of honey..

    .

    Christen ➡ I’m still hungry, besides you know I’m eating for two now..

    .

    Riley ➡ Okay.. What do you want?

    .

    Christen ➡ Milk.

    .

    Riley ➡ Okay.. Let me go get it for you.

    .

    I left the bed staggering with sleep in my eyes as I walked to the kitchen, as soon as I got there, I opened the fridge and brought out the chilled L and Z milk and then I took a cup and went back to the bedroom.

    As soon as I got in, I got the surprise of my life, just as I was about to serve Christen the milk, I saw her frowning and mumbling.

    Riley ➡ What’s wrong?.. Don’t you like the milk again?

    .

    Christen ➡ No.. It’s just that I don’t want this one.. I want the ones that the fulani women used to sell.

    .

    Riley ➡ You mean *Fura and nono*

    .

    Christen ➡ Yes. I want that.. Out and get it for me..

    .

    I stood bewildered and shocked… Was this b*tch for real?…. How does she expect me to find those fulani women not to talk of even the milk drink itself.

    .

    Riley ➡ Are you really serious right now? It’s 1:00 am.. WHERE IN THE WORLD DO YOU EXPECT ME TO GET FURA DA NONO?

    .

    Christen ➡ Are you raising your voice at me?

    .

    Riley ➡ I’m sorry.. Please Christen.. Try to understand.. I can’t find that drink tonight.. Why don’t you leave tomorrow morning huh?

    .

    Christen ➡ No. I want it now..

    .

    I knew she wouldn’t change her mind so I took my car keys and left the house that night in search for those fulani milk drinks.. I drove through the streets of Ibadan hoping to see at least one fulani milk maid but there was none, I was even annoyed by all this.. Christen is a witch, she could just get it easily without bothering me… God I just hope she stops all this wahala of hers. In that moment, I decided to call Khalid to see if he knew where I could get the fulani yoghurt.

    .

    Riley ➡ Hello Khalid.

    .

    Khalid ➡ Riley.. You dey craze.. Can’t you see your call just interrupted an intimate moment?

    .

    Riley ➡ Sorry o..please I’m in need of your help, do you know where I can find FURA DA NONO?

    .

    Khalid ➡ By this time of the night??? Ogbeni.. Are you sure you’re okay?

    .

    Riley ➡ Look, it’s for Christen.. She’s pregnant.

    .

    Khalid ➡ Wow! Man i feel for you.. You’re going through one of those stages of a man’s life.. Hang on friend.. You’ll definitely scale through. (Laughs) 😂😂😂.

    .

    Riley ➡ 😒 Are you done laughing?

    .

    Khalid ➡ Sorry man.. But seriously congratulations… I think I can help you with your problem, why don’t you come over to my place, I have a gallon of the stuff with me..

    Riley ➡ Thanks I’ll be right over.

    .

    Moments later, I arrived at Khalid’s place and got some of the stuff, I thanked him and drove back home, as soon as I got there and parked the car, I rushed into the house and straight to the bedroom, where I saw Christen drink the L and Z milk yoghurt.

    .

    Riley ➡ Darling.. I’ve got it.

    .

    Christen ➡ Ehn… You’re late..

    .

    Riley ➡ Of course I am.. I’ve been looking for fulani yoghurt all night. But I’ve finally gotten it.. It’s nice and cold.

    .

    Christen ➡ Well, you should drink it.. I’m full.. Good night love.

    .

    Christen went to sleep leaving me standing in shock… God! Why do women have to be so messed up? Why can’t they make up their minds?, after that I went back to the kitchen and put the drink in the fridge and then went back to sleep in the bedroom.

    This was just tip of the iceberg there are some nights when things get a little bit intense like for instance, There was this time I slept closely next to Christen wrapping my arms around her, then suddenly Christen would then unconsciously bite my arm hard… I got so scared when she did that especially when I saw her fangs.. I never knew she had fangs until now.. For many nights, this weird habit of hers has been going on until on this particular night she did something I just couldn’t handle. I was sleeping 😪 with my back turned towards her, Christen then subconsciously, reached out and sniff my shoulder after that, She bit me so hard her fangs dug deep into my flesh, I shouted out in pain and got away from her.. Christen then suddenly woke up and asked what happened, when she saw my bleeding shoulder and sensed the blood in her mouth, she freaked out.

    .

    Christen ➡ NO! NO! NO! NO!.. THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING.

    .

    Riley ➡ Darling.. Relax..

    .

    Christen ➡ How can you say that? I just bit you deep.. Does it hurt?

    .

    Riley ➡ No I’m fine.. I’m used to it..

    .

    Christen ➡ Used to it?….

    .

    Riley ➡ Look it doesn’t matter…

    .

    Christen ➡ Hold on… This isn’t the first time I’m doing this right?… How could you keep this from me? Do you know how serious this is? I could have killed you.

    .

    Riley ➡ Well, you haven’t.. It’s alright.

    .

    Christen ➡ No, its not.. I can’t stay here.

    .

    Riley ➡ Christen wait…..

    .

    Before I could stop her, she teleported out of the room, I was worried after that… Where could she have possibly gone this night.. I searched the house to see If she was hiding in one of the room, I even summoned Solomon to tell me where she was but even he couldn’t sense her presence.. I sat on the edge on the bed after that thinking about the worries look on her face.. I just hope she isn’t going to do anything crazy.. In that moment, I figured out an ides on how to find Christen, I took the car keys locked the house and drove to the gathering place of the supernatural beings to see if I could find Esther there, as soon as I got there, I saw the place crowded, and a party was going on, After parking my car, I went into the place and started looking for Esther, As I went around the place, I noticed all eyes were on me, Then suddenly I was startled by jenny.

    Riley ➡ Jesus Christ! Jenny?

    .

    Jenny ➡ Riley!? It’s been a while… How’ve you been?.

    .

    Riley ➡ I’m fine.. How about you?

    .

    Jenny ➡ It’s been great.. Hmm, you look worried.. Is something wrong?

    .

    Riley ➡ I’m looking for Esther, have you seen her?

    .

    Jenny ➡ No… She’s hasn’t been coming to this place lately.

    .

    Riley ➡ D–n!

    .

    Jenny ➡ What’s wrong?

    .

    Riley ➡ I’m looking for Christen.. I wanted to see Esther and ask her if she knew where is she?

    .

    Jenny ➡ Is Christen alright?

    .

    Riley ➡ Yeah.. She just disappeared, that’s all.

    .

    Jenny ➡ Don’t worry.. Let me see what I can do.

    .

    Before I knew what was happening, Jenny called for the attention for everyone in the place and told them about the situation.

    .

    Jenny ➡ Listen up guys… Riley here is looking for Christen.. We need to help him find her.

    .

    Ghoul ➡ And why should we do that?

    .

    Jenny ➡ Because if anything happens to her, You all know what Rose will do to us..

    .

    Everyone kept quiet after that! They looked at each other as if they had heard a death sentence.

    .

    Witch ➡ But we’re not responsible for her disappearance..

    .

    Ghoul ➡ Yes

    .

    Mermaid ➡ It’s not fair.. She can’t harm us for something we didn’t do.

    .

    Riley ➡ Look everyone please.. I’m begging you to help me find her…

    .

    Monife ➡ Why should we?

    .

    I quickly turned to the direction from where the voice came from and saw it was Monife, she was sitting down having a cup of human blood.

    .

    Riley ➡ What did you just say?

    .

    Monife ➡ I said why should we? After all, you’re her fiance, her lover, her man.. You should have control over her and know her every move. Maybe she’s not gone, maybe there’s something you did to her.

    .

    Ghoul ➡ What are you talking about?

    .

    Monife ➡ What I’m saying is.. He’s a human and you all know humans are deceptive.. Maybe she isn’t gone, cause I know her, she wouldn’t leave your side for a second, I think there’s something you did to her.

    .

    Riley ➡ Are you saying I’m responsible for her disappearance?

    .

    Monife ➡ Of course.

    .

    The moment she said that, everyone turned around and stared at me suspiciously, then they began to mumble.. I knew what Monife was planning but how could I talk my way out and convince this horrific beings otherwise, but then suddenly Jenny took a a stand for me.

    .

    Jenny ➡ Alright, that’s enough! This is nothing but nonsense.. Monife.. You’re nothing but a trouble maker… Do you really think Riley can hurt christen? He can’t… Though he’s human but I can vouch for him.. Besides he’s not stupid enough to do anything to Christen cause he knows what will follow next.

    .

    Monife ➡ Shut your mouth, mammy water b*tch… You know nothing of this sniveling human. He’s not to be trusted.

    .

    Just as Monife and Jenny were about to start throwing harsh words at each other, we all heard a loud cynical laugh and a agonizing shout of pain, shortly after that, Rose and her friends came into the place dragging a man behind them, both of the man’s arms was torn apart and his mid-section was bleeding out immensely, as the poor soul kept shouting, Rose walked over to the man’s head and punched through his face, her hands came out from behind his head, she pulled out her hands and brought out his skull together with his brains.. She then threw it towards the direction of the ghouls and they all gathered around it like flies around a dustbin. In that moment, she saw me and was surprised by my presence.

    .

    Rose ➡ Riley!? What are you doing here?

    .

    Riley ➡ Hi, Rose.. I’m here to get some help.

    .

    Rose ➡ What for?

    .

    Monife ➡ Christen is missing and it’s his fault..

    .

    I was shocked when Monife said that before I could say anything, Rose smacked me hard across the face making me fly across the room, I fell down hard on the ground moaning in pain.. God.. This b*tch get power.

    Everyone stood still watching helpless as Rose made her way towards me.. She came over me and stomped my chest hard pressing her foot harder, I could feel the cracking sound of my ribs as Rose added more pressure to her footing.

    .

    Riley ➡ Rose! (gasp) hold on.. Monife is lying.. Let. Me. explain.

    .

    Rose ➡ Explain? What did you do to my sister?

    .

    Riley ➡ Nothing.. She just left the house all of a sudden..

    .

    Rose ➡ Just left that? Why?

    .

    Riley ➡ I don’t know.. That’s why I came here to look for her.

    .

    Rose ➡ Did you do anything to make her leave the house?

    .

    Riley ➡ No. I didn’t… Ahhhh (moans in pain)

    .

    Rose ➡ I don’t buy it.. Why are you then so worried that she left the house? Huh? Tell me..

    .

    Rose pressed her leg harder on my chest almost bursting through my ribs… I didn’t want to tell her why I was worried but if I don’t, she might end up killing me.

    .

    Riley ➡ I was worried because she’s…

    .

    Rose ➡ She’s what? Tell me!!!

    .

    Riley ➡ Because she’s pregnant!

    .

    Rose ➡ WHAT???

    .

    Everyone was surprised when I said that… Rose quickly got her foot off my chest and stared at me in astonishment.. I almost laughed when I saw the look on Monife’s face, she certainly wasn’t happy about this.. Rose then raised me up and dusted me, she apologized for everything but I wasn’t going to accept her apology instead I gave her exactly what she gave me.

    KAPOOW!!!!!

    Everyone gasped in shock when I slapped Rose, even she was taken aback but she didn’t flinch… I really felt good when I slapped her, I’ve been waiting a long time to do this.. She can’t just be beating people anyhow unreasonably, in that moment, I became a legend.

    .

    Rose ➡ You b*stard! Do you have any idea what you’ve done?

    .

    Riley ➡ Yeah, and I must say.. It felt good.. You had it coming..

    .

    Rose ➡ Do you think you can just embarrass me like that and walk away Scott free?

    .

    Riley ➡ Well, if you had listened to me first, this wouldn’t have happened.. You should focus your anger on Monife, she’s the architect of all this.

    .

    Rose smiled after that and then went over to Monife, when she saw Rose was coming, she attempted to run but she wasn’t fast enough, Rose grabbed hold of her with her shadow magic tangling her in it, as soon as she got close, She gave Monife such a beating that even the devil would feel sorry for her, the terrifying sound of Rose’s punch on Monife’s body made everyone trembled with fear, as soon as she was done with her, Monife’s face was covered in blood and bruised, she was then thrown out like a cockroach.

    Satisfied with her brutality, Rose approached me and gave me a hug.

    Rose ➡ Congratulations.. I’m sorry I did that to you and I’m going to let you go for that slap but next time you do that again… I will be dining on your corpse.

    .

    Riley ➡ Fair enough..

    .

    Rose ➡ Since when was she pregnant?

    .

    Riley ➡ Weeks ago.

    .

    Rose ➡ What? And you didn’t tell me?

    .

    Riley ➡ We didn’t tell anybody, we wanted to wait for the right time to announce it.

    .

    Rose ➡ I still can’t believe it… Aunt Jezebel was right.. You had to impregnate her even before she became your wife.

    .

    Riley ➡ That’s none of your business.. Can we go look for her now?

    .

    After that, Rose ordered everyone to leave the place and join hands with us in looking for Christen.. That night, Ibadan was swarming with agents of dark forces, the ghouls blended in the shadows, the witches soared the skies, and the mermaids swam through the rivers around Ibadan, I on the other hand rode in my car together with Rose and a friend of hers.. We rode all over Ibadan looking for Christen but still there was no sign of her, we then decided to drive to Oyo and check the place, as we were driving there, we all began to converse.

    Rose ➡ So have you thought of the name of your unborn child?

    .

    Riley ➡ Yes.. But it’s a secret.. I won’t tell you.

    .

    Rose ➡ I see.. How did you feel when she told you she was expecting?

    .

    Riley ➡ I was surprised at first.. But I’m happy.

    .

    Rose ➡ Aren’t you worried that your life wouldn’t be the same?

    .

    Riley ➡ No.. As a matter of fact, my life has been the same since I met Christen. Why are you asking me all this?

    .

    Rose ➡ Because I’ve seen how deceptive you humans are, I’ve spent centuries in this world and I’ve seen a lot.. I want to make sure my sister gets a better life.. I don’t want her to make the like our mom.

    .

    Riley ➡ But she didn’t marry a human.

    .

    Rose ➡ yes but she was killed by one..

    .

    Riley ➡ Look, I love Christen and I’ll do anything to make her happy.. I don’t know what the future holds but I’ll do my best to make our marriage work..

    .

    Rose ➡ You’re so full of positivity.. I like that… But I’ll be on the sidelines to watch you both.

    .

    Riley ➡ So when are you getting married?

    .

    Rose ➡ Not yet. I’m not ready for that.

    .

    Riley ➡ My brother Lionel is still around, I know he has a girlfriend but I can make arrangements for you two to meet.

    .

    Rose ➡ Your brother? The one I tried to kill.. (Laughs) you can’t be serious.

    .

    Riley ➡ I am.

    .

    Rose ➡ No.. Don’t even bother.. I’d still kill him if I get the chance.. Your brother is quite a nourishment.

    .

    Riley ➡ I can’t believe you..

    .

    In that moment, our conversation was interrupted when we were halted by the police standing at the road side, I stopped the car and they came close to us flashing touch lights at us.

    .

    Riley ➡ Officers.. How can we help you?

    .

    Police man 1 ➡ Wetin you dey do by the time of the night?

    .

    Riley ➡ Going to my house of course.

    .

    Police man 2 ➡ Who be this oloshos wey you carry for your car?

    .

    Riley ➡ This is my sister in law and her friend.

    .

    Police man 1 ➡ Ehn.. Make I see your driving license

    .

    Rose ➡ Officer, you’re wasting our time.. Let us pass now.

    .

    Riley ➡ Relax Rose.

    .

    Police man 1 ➡ Wetin you say.

    .

    Rose ➡ I said let us pass..

    .

    Police man 2 ➡ I know trust this olosho, oya make una come down, COME DOWN!

    .

    Nancy ➡ Are they for real?

    .

    Rose ➡ They are.

    .

    Riley ➡ Please ladies.. Don’t do anything funny.

    .

    Police man 1 ➡ Oga, you dey hear so? I say come down..

    .

    We all came down from the car and started to search us but Rose wouldn’t let them touch her.

    .

    Rose ➡ Don’t you dare touch me, you pig.

    .

    Police man 1 ➡ You dey crazy ni? Come make I search you.

    .

    Rose ➡ Over my dead body.. I don’t let second rate beings touch my magnificent body.

    .

    Riley ➡ Rose just let them search you.

    .

    In that moment the other police man came behind Rose and gave her a dirty slap, I knew their lives were forfeit in that moment, as they were busy shouting at her, Rose bare out her nails, grabbed on of the policemen and tore out his throat with ease.. The other one couldn’t even wait, he ran a few pace backwards and aimed his gun at us before he could fire the gun, Rose’s friend got in front of him and dug her right hand in between his chest, pulling out his heart.

    All I could do was watch and shake my head in pity.. Police men and their wahala, now look at what they’ve caused for themselves, besides what were they doing by this time of the night?

    After that, we got into the car and continued our ride to Oyo, after hours of frantic search, Christen was no where to be found, we finally rode back to Ibadan and converged at the hangout. Even there others that helped us search for Christen said she was nowhere to be found.

    .

    Rose ➡ Are you sure she’s not here in Ibadan?

    .

    I left the place and rode back home, as soon as I got there, I parked the car and sat on the hood, staring at stars in the sky,.. In that moment, I saw something that made me almost take off.. It was that same little girl with the black cat 🐈, she stood close to the forest and stared at me.

    I stood and stared at her as well, just what was she doing here? Is she after me? All this questions filled my mind.

    The girl stared at me giving me a direct look, the little devil looked so much like Christen in facial appearance.. Even when I asked her, she kept quiet and stared at me, then suddenly, she held out something in her hands showing it to me.. It was the same necklace 📿 as Christen’s, I brought out mine holding it in my hands, after that, she pointed at the necklace and then pointed towards the direction of the forest.. I didn’t understand, so I asked her what she meant.. She frowned a little and then put back the necklace, she then began to make gestures with her fingers as if she was writing something on air, in that moment, Some whitish ray of light showed at the place where she wrote and i saw what she had written.

    After that, The girl, the cat, and the writing vanished like thin air… I began to think about what the girl wrote and then i figured it out… I ran as fast as I could into the forest, heading straight to the iroko tree, Why didn’t I think of it sooner? The Iroko tree was the one place that I forgot to check and it was the place Christen loves to hang out.

    Minutes later as I arrived at the place, I looked around the place but I couldn’t find her, as I looked up at the tree branches, I saw her high up standing on one of the branches.. I felt relieved when I saw her, she wasn’t even sleeping, she was just sitting down staring onto the view.

    Riley ➡ Christen!!!

    I called out to her but she didn’t answer, I called out to her again but she still didn’t answer, when I called for the third time, she looked down and stares at me, she still didn’t say anything.

    Riley ➡ Okay.. If you won’t answer me, I’m climbing up.

    But before I could do that, thorns began to pop out of the tree and before long the whole tree was covered in thorns except where Christen sat.. I stared at the horns and wondered why she was behaving like this.. Well if she thinks that’s going to stop me.. She’s going. I prayed silently in my mind and began to climb the tree.

    Some say marriage 💍 or having a child is the best thing that could ever happen to a man but still not every man can handle the pressure and consequences that comes with it. The moment I found out Christen was pregnant, I knew I was in for a long bumpy ride and because of that there are two things I needed the most which were tolerance and patience. Women to be honest are troublesome and nerve wrecking creatures and one has to be both tolerant and patience with them, being with an ordinary woman is trouble enough but a witch that’s a whole different level.

    Ever since she announced she was pregnant, Christen has been given me a hard time, she was bossy, pushy and and worst of all arrogant.. Though the baby bump hasn’t yet shown Christen insisted on enjoying herself and relaxing, what surprised me was instead of getting chubbier or having signs of pregnancy like other women do, she gets more younger, lovelier, and attractive everyday plus her body gets more and more seductive and luscious whenever I see her, I was hoping to get laid with her but Christen never allows me to make love to her, I could kiss and touch but when it comes to sex, that’s a no entry zone. I tolerated all this and endured her bullshit.

    As if that wasn’t enough, Christen started getting a little bit disturbing, a week after I found out she was expecting, She insisted that I leave my house and come to hers and stay, she claimed that she was defenseless and needed a man to protect her and the baby.. I knew she was just messing with me cause she could handle a regiment of soldiers without breaking a sweat.. So eventually, I moved in to her house but that wasn’t enough, Clinging on to her pregnancy, she made me do the entire house work, I would sweep, clean, and wash, Hell in the end, I became a house boy,.. Even when we went to shop for yoghurt milks and honey jars in supermarkets, I was left to carry everything , but despite all that, she still gave me my respect as a Fiancee.

    But the real drama starts whenever we both sleep together in bed, sometimes in the middle of the night around 1:00 am, Christen would wake me up and tell me that she was hungry and in need of food.

I drove through the streets of Ibadan hoping to see at least one fulani milk maid but there was none, I was even annoyed by all this.. Christen is a witch, she could just get it easily without bothering me… God I just hope she stops all this wahala of hers. In that moment, I decided to call Khalid to see if he knew where I could get the fulani yoghurt.

    Christen went to sleep leaving me standing in shock… God! Why do women have to be so messed up? Why can’t they make up their minds?, after that I went back to the kitchen and put the drink in the fridge and then went back to sleep in the bedroom.

    This was just tip of the iceberg there are some nights when things get a little bit intense like for instance, There was this time I slept closely next to Christen wrapping my arms around her, then suddenly Christen would then unconsciously bite my arm hard… I got so scared when she did that especially when I saw her fangs.. I never knew she had fangs until now.. For many nights, this weird habit of hers has been going on until on this particular night she did something I just couldn’t handle. I was sleeping 😪 with my back turned towards her, Christen then subconsciously, reached out and sniff my shoulder after that, She bit me so hard her fangs dug deep into my flesh, I shouted out in pain and got away from her.. Christen then suddenly woke up and asked what happened, when she saw my bleeding shoulder and sensed the blood in her mouth, she freaked out.

    Christen ➡ NO! NO! NO! NO!.. THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING.

    Riley ➡ Darling.. Relax..

In that moment, I figured out an ides on how to find Christen, I took the car keys locked the house and drove to the gathering place of the supernatural beings to see if I could find Esther there, as soon as I got there, I saw the place crowded, and a party was going on, After parking my car, I went into the place and started looking for Esther, As I went around the place, I noticed all eyes were on me, Then suddenly I was startled by jenny.

    Jenny ➡ Riley!? It’s been a while… How’ve you been?.

She then threw it towards the direction of the ghouls and they all gathered around it like flies around a dustbin. In that moment, she saw me and was surprised by my presence.

    Satisfied with her brutality, Rose approached me and gave me a hug.

Since she came into his life, everything had gone from good to bad and from bad to worse and now that he had a chance to re-write his destiny, that witch has snatched that chance away from him giving him more problem than he ever bargained for.

    He had been twenty eight years old when he met Linda. He didn’t know the love of a mother because she was always on business trips not giving a damn about whatever happened to him but as busy as his father was he still had time for him. He had been on a journey with his father one day when he was twenty five when they got involved in an accident. The accident did not claim his life but it claimed his father’s life. When he became twenty eight, he went to the doctor because he had slept with several girls without protection and did not record any of them coming to him with the ‘I am pregnant’ story. a test had been carried out which brought his worst nightmare to light. The doctor had looked him straight in the face and said, “…I am sorry, you can never be able to impregnate a woman”.

    He had been like a fallen tree for months. The friends he had told, instead of pacifying and consoling him had mocked him and helped him spread the news. He had been stinkingly rich then so one day when he was checking out of a hotel that was popularly known in the island to be a ‘hotel for the rich’ after a business trip, he saw a very very beautiful young lady crying on the staircase. He was instantly drawn to her, so he approached her and asked her what the matter was. She said, “I came to see a man here but he threw me out”.

    He was taken aback wondering how a reasonable man could throw this striking lady out without a second thought. After much persuasion, she opened up and said, “I met him like a month ago and he promised to take care of me but now I a pregnant and he is denying it, saying he has a wife that he loves, he did not tell me that before o, he did not”, she had said crying profusely.

    He took her to his house; he had inherited the house from his father and despite the fact that he had other houses; he loved this particular house because of its design for it was actually built like a foreign house. He had the servants prepare her a warm bath and after her bath, she had slept like a newly born baby. She actually looked like one. When she woke up the next morning he had called her, told her his problem and promised to take care of her and the child if she allows the child to bear his surname. She had agreed instantly and he also made her promise never to disclose that secret to their child. They had lived in luxury for five years and he noticed the time that Linda started falling in love with him. He was taken by her beauty but he just was not in love with her. Belina grew to be a carbon copy of her mother and much more beautiful that she looked like a doll most of the time. This made Mr Badmus exceedingly angry because he could boast about being her father in public but in his heart, the truth that he could never have a child however ugly, made him despise Belina. Things became bad after five years and he took it out big time on Linda blaming her for misfortunes and he would have transferred it also on Belina if Linda hadn’t been protecting her all the way.

    Mr. Badmus wanted to just die as he looked at how far he had depreciated. He wished he had abandoned Linda on the step that day. He looked around at all he was worth in the sitting room and said to himself, “if it is the last thing I do, I would make sure that Belina pays for this”. He said and crossed his heart.

    Tolu took out the 150, 000 Naira he had collected from Tunji for the job and put it in his cross bag. When he was about to step out of his house, he thought about it again and removed fifty thousand naira from the money and dropped it. Tunji would have to accept the money like that, at least the job was carried out only that those idiotic boys blundered it. He took something else and put it in his pocket. If he won’t accept it, I would make him accept it by force.

    He got to Tunji’s house and upon arrival, he met Tunji in his sitting room about to finish a bottle of whiskey. Tunji looked at him immediately he entered and his eyes sent bullets right through his heart. Tolu was never intimidated by anyone so he marched right towards him, brought out the 100, 000 Naira and placed it right there on the bar.

    “That is 100, 000 Naira. I removed 50, 000 because the job was carried out only that the girl ran away”. Tunji lifted the cup of whiskey to his lips but instead of him to drink it, in a flash, he poured it in Tolu’s face. “Jesus…” Tolu said, startled. Tunji laughed slightly and the next second, his face was blank like he hadn’t been laughing merely seconds ago. “You better complete my money, right here and now, if not, uhn, you would see”. Very slowly like in all these action movies, Tolu brought out his gun at placed it right on Tunji’s forehead. Tunji turned to a stone with seconds and he started shivering like he had fallen into the type of ice water that was showed in Titanic. Tolu laughed heartily, “so, you no even get liver. Give me one reason why I should not blow your head off”, he said. Tunji kept on saying please but he had stepped on Tolu’s toes. “You have never been slapped by a woman and you wanted her to pay for it, so also no one had dared pour a cup of water on my face not to mention a drink. Well, when I blow off your head, I would be able to take the whole money. Say hello to the devil for me”, he said and pulled the trigger.

    As the day went by, I almost forgot completely about the event of the previous day. Prisca made everything very enjoyable and my newly found dad and mum made me feel like a little girl again. They were very comfortable. Not exceedingly rich but they could easily buy whatever they wanted without thinking twice. One would expect them to feel pompous but no, they were the most humble set of people I had ever seen. They took me out and got me new sets of clothes, shoes bags and everything they felt was customary. Anyone that did not know them would think I was their daughter.

    Being a weekend, everyone was at home. Mum almost overfed me and I commented on it but she would not have any excuses. She said I was still weak no matter what I said and that I should just eat and sleep. Although I was not so used to being fussed over, I enjoyed it and I made myself feel like a baby for the first time in my life.

    I strolled out with Prisca in the evening. We had prepared dinner earlier so that we would be able to stroll out together in order to be alone away from the house. Though Prisca’s parents pamper a lot, they were also disciplinarians and did not even condone laziness. That is the reason why they did not employ any house help. I walked beside Prisca and I noticed that she had been silent for most of the evening. “What’s up Prisca?” I asked. She sighed, “You don’t know how happy I am to have you here with me. It had been really tough living alone with my parents without any young person to chat with. Sometimes I feel older than I actually am”. I laughed heartily, “cmon now, your parents are not old, I am very sure they both still turn heads”, I said winking honestly. She grinned, the old Prisca returning, “so, you know about the turning of heads abi? Who taught you” she asked mischievously. “Abeg leave me joor, you have started”, I said trying to avoid the place I knew she was headed. “you should join the convent baby girl, only that you are not a saint” she said. I stopped and placed my hands on my hips feigning anger. “You this girl don’t have respect again o, am I the one you are talking to” I asked looking upset and Prisca laughed. She was actually older than me with three months and some days. Prisca stood in front of me and used her eyes to trace my body like she was a guy and I instantly became uncomfortable. She laughed heartily and had to hold her sides trying to still the laughter. I hissed, “so you have not thrown away your acting skills abi?” I asked. It had been a long time since she did that and she always did that to drive in her point. “You see? You are not immune to guys and what I just did confirm it”. She came over and placed her hand on my shoulder. “Give yourself the chance to love someone and you would be as happy as I am with Tony”. I remembered what I saw yesterday and blushed. She laughed again for a long time and I finally smiled uncomfortably. She did not stop laughing so I gave her a tender blow on her arm and she ran off laughing. There was just something about being with Prisca, she could make you remember your time as a child with so much ease that you want to behave like a child. When she started running, I ran after her, shouting at her to make her stop but she did not so I ran faster. Thank God we were almost at home because I just could not make myself stop, I was enjoying myself for the first time in a very long while and when we got inside, we collapsed on the floor and laughed our butts out while dad and mum stood there looking at us.

    Tony was exceedingly happy when Richard told him about Deji’s stability. It had been a long time since a casualty had been recorded in their hospital and he had prayed that it remain that way although his prayed had doubled when he saw the way Richard was taking it. He knew that if the outcome had been otherwise, Richard would be adversely affected even if he did not tell anyone because he had this arrogant exterior that never wanted anyone to see his pain.

    He had known Richard right from his secondary school days and they had been inseparable friends although they got separated a bit when they went to the higher institution, fate brought them back to each other. Richard who was a complete Nigerian looked more foreign and was often mistaken for a half cast because of his wavy hair and non-Nigerian voice. He was given birth to in America but when his parents got divorced seven years after he was born, his father had taken custody of him while his mother took he other two girls.

    Tony made Deji’s room and he met Doctor Deolu, the third doctor in the hospital, on the way and they exchange pleasantries before they parted. He entered Deji’s room and found him awake looking confused. “Hello, how are you feeling?” he asked smiling at Deji. Deji looked at him more confused, “I don’t know who you are” “it is alright, I am your doctor” “You don’t understand, I… I don’t know anything. The only thing I remember is being hit by a big bus. Where was I going…Who am i?” Deji lamented. Tony felt distraught but did not let it show on his face (one of the virtues a doctor should possess) so he just said still smiling, “you just need to rest a little bit and I am sure you would remember it all in a short while. It is perfectly normal at this stage”. When it became obvious that Deji would not be able to relax because of his confusion, Tony sedated him and went in search of Richard.

    Mr. Badmus had called his friends seeking for financial help but none of them wanted to help him. He could not go to his bank to seek for a loan either so he decided to wait at home keeping a low profile and hoping that Tunji would not come. The entire money he had was fifty thousand Naira and he took it home incase Tunji showed, he would not be empty handed.

    He switched on the Tv desperately trying to calm his nerves and what he saw chilled him to the bones. “HEADLINES: The son of the Deputy Governor, Olatunji James, murdered.

    “Unexpected things happen in life and try as we may, we don’t have the power to stop it. We sometimes feel some people deserve death more than others and those who actually deserve death seem to be immune to it but we must know that God works in mysterious ways and everything he does is well calculated”.

    Mr. Badmus seemed to receive the news with mixed feelings. He still could not place the fact that someone he had seen the previous day and spoken to merely hours ago is dead. He suddenly became scared of his environment and he looked around to be sure he was alone. He stared at the Tv again and asked no one in particular, “who could have done this?” he thought about belina but knew that no matter how stubborn she is, she could never attempt something like that. Though he was distraught about the fact that his only source of making wealth had been cut off completely, he still had a cause to smile.

    He remembered the way Tunji had been screaming his lungs out on phone about what he would do if he did not bring the money and related it to the incident of the rich fool in the bible. It had been years since he was within the four walls of a church and he still did not see any reason why that should change. He smiled secretly in his heart, happy that the problem was solved but when he looked at the Tv again, he swore for the second time in his heart to ensure that Belina pays for everything she had cost him.

    I stared at the plasma TV in shock as the newscaster relayed the story of a murder. I sat shivering in my seat as I looked at the TV, not really hearing what was being said. Prisca’s parents initially did not know who was being referred to and they just reacted to the news the way every normal person would. Prisca who was by my side on the two seater couch hugged me tenderly and when her parents looked at us, they remembered where they had heard that name and Prisca’s dad became angry.

    “So this is the bastard that have been making your life miserable?” he asked and stared at Tunji’s picture again on the TV wanting to kill him the second time perhaps. “He damn right deserves what he got so don’t you dare cry if you love yourself”, he said glaring at me.

    I didn’t intend on crying and even if I did, tears seemed to desert my eyes. I should be happy that I would finally have a little bit of peace but I just could not smile. I pitied Tunji and wished he hadn’t ended his life like that. I had a strong conviction that if my dad had not made him believe that he could have me, he would not have pursued me this long. I remembered that it had been only two days ago when I saw him and he looked so full of life. The might and ability of God now amazed me tremendously as he could wipe out anything and anyone with a second. Prisca’s mother scolded her husband for being too harsh on me and even though he wished that Tunji would get a special department in hell, his eyes said he wished he could kill him himself.

    Richard sat in his office not looking very happy. Tony had told him about Deji’s memory loss and how he only remembered the traumatic accident and his heart reached out to him. He knew that that state was far better than death and even though Deji had lost his memory, he still gave thanks to God. He promised himself to do all that he can to see that Deji recovers his memory. Deji’s parents including Adewale and some friends came to the hospital and Richard had explained the situation to them. He noticed that they were not happy with his loss of memory but were glad all the same thanking him for his help. Although Deji should be around 24 to 25 years by his scrutiny, his parents fussed over him like a newly born baby while he just looked at them confused.

    He went into the bathroom to wash his hands and when he saw his reflection in the toilet mirror, he noticed that he looked drawn and stressed so made a mental note to have a vacation sometime soon. He left his office and went into Deji’s room to check on him and saw his parents with him. Deji looked at him upon arrival and smiled at him. After greeting the parents, he looked at Deji, smiled back and asked, “How is the good patient doing today?” “I am feeling much better Doctor Richard” Deji said still smiling. “You can call me Richard”, Richard said feeling a little bit awkward having a young guy like him call him so formally. He wouldn’t have felt awkward if he had not taken Deji’s case personal.

    Deji smiled the more and asked, “When would I recover my memory doctor? I feel awkward when I see people I don’t remember treat me with so much familiarity”.

    Richard nodded sympathetically and said, “Very soon. A psychologist would be here to check on you on Monday and I think in a very short while, you would recall even the day you were born”. Deji laughed at the joke and asked another thing, “Can I at least stand up and walk about a bit? I feel like I have been lying on this bed since the day I was born”. Richard laughed slightly was about to talk when Deji’s mother said, “no, you are not standing up from this bed yet o, ma koba mi iwo omo yi”, she said aggressively. “He can stand up and have the nurses push him around in a wheel chair for a few minutes”, Richard said softly even though Deji’s mother did not buy the idea. After convincing her that it is a good idea, he left and on the way, told nurse Titi to carry out the assignment.

    Tony had taken the evening off to rest at home and prepare for service the next day and Richard also felt he should do the same thing. He was glad that Tony had convinced the Human Resource Department to employ Belina even though he knew she could have been easily employed without his interference, she is exceedingly brilliant. Even though he still haven’t seen her he had seen her credentials and test papers and have acknowledged that she must be a genius. He knew that she was going through a tough time by what Tony told him the other day and he was glad that she would be working there. He sat down in his office anticipating her arrival on Monday and how it would help Deji’s memory.

    Grace’s marriage introduction finally came and was done. 

    Everyone were so excited both the parents and the family members were in attendance and necessary things were paid by the groom’s family and the traditional marriage was also done according to plan. 

    Grace couldn’t stop crying and at the same time she was so happy to have married the love of her life. She wore the best of the dresses and came out looking more beautiful. 

    “This is all God’s doing and it’s marvelous!” She said to Jane.

    “Yes dear, there’s nothing this God cannot do. Look at you, now Mrs John. I am so very happy for you sweetheart. I bless you, I bless your home and all that you have. I pray for a baby boy soon!” Jane prayed and both ladies began arguing which should come first between the gender.

    Grace admires her friend’s courage and patience. Not for once has she felt bad till now, she is always happy and looking more pretty than ever! This is God at work she said.

    In her room she never stops praying for her friend.

    Jane is a loving soul who deserves every happiness in life,  She doesn’t want her friend to feel lonely when she finally goes to her husband’s house. 

    During her wedding preparations, she had fasted for Jane and prayed without involving her. She believes this would be the best she can give to her friend, prayer!. Not knowing that Jane too has been praying for long and still praying and waiting for her Mr Right!

    Sometimes when she comes home she would always tell her mom what went on in Grace’s house and how everything is working out perfectly as they have planned and also the kind of wedding she would love to have. The mother too would always smile seeing how her daughter’s faith has grown. 

    She had thought that her daughter would give up one day and deviate but here she is, still holding on to her faith and to her promises. 

    Her Mother would pray for her daughter in her closet for God to strengthen her child.

     One day came as she was praying the Lord revealed that her prayer has been answered. 

    It was like a dream.

     She woke up one of the night hour and started praying again for her daughter and her future and God revealed the second time who her daughter’s husband would be.

    She didn’t tell Jane because she needed to be sure of  the revelation. Still it came out similar face, structure and nothing was hidden from her.

    One morning, after their morning devotion Jane’s mother decided to asked Jane what she has never done for long now. She needed to know what is happening in the life of her daughter, She had prayed and she’s convinced.

    She has asked God to also reveal this man to her daughter one day too.

    “Jane dear…” The mother called in the midst of their chats

    “Yes mother”.

    “I want to ask you something please..”

    “Okay…what is it mother…”

    “My dear, You know after you parted ways with that brother of yours I have not seen you bringing any brother here, even if he’s your friend. I know that you are still praying, that’s why I never want to bother my prescious jewel, even now. But dear, have you seen someone, how has your prayer been? Is there any revelation? God can speak to us in diverse ways don’t forget Jane.  Grace is married and soon you will be the one remaining. But my dear, your mother is here with you, God is with you. If no one has approached you yet I believe he is coming sooner than you may expect him! Trust me and trust this God dear, the later shall be counted all joy” the mother lastly said

    “Hmm, mother, I’m so grateful to have you by my side…I understand that every mother looks and prays for a day her daughter will grow to be a woman, bring a man of her choice and a day she will be called a Grandma…”.

    “…for that is the prayer of every mother. Yes mother I know it all. Mother, I believe that my prayers and my waiting will never be in vain! The Bible says that ‘we should seek him first and every other things will be added unto us!” This verse keeps my hope”.

    “…Don’t worry mother, I am doing perfectly fine! And after Grace’s wedding mine will be the next!” Jane said smiling hard

    “Amen my dear… you deserve the smiles, may you find peace in your future home. Happiness will never cease and God’s love will keep on burning. Your future man will not rest untill he locates you o…” The mother prayed and they all chorused amen!!! Filling the room with laughter .

    I walked down the lane crying. My life just seemed to be going bad by the day. I felt like dying and all of a sudden, my phone went alive and I picked up almost immediately.

    “Hello Prisca, oh prisca… thank God you called” I said still crying. Even my mum’s admonition about tears could not stop my tears. “What is the matter Belina? I had been calling like forever, are you ok?” she asked. “No, you only need to see me but I need your help now, I would tell you everything later”. “I knew you were not ok, we are already on our way to your house now, tony and I” she said. “No, no, don’t go there o, I am not there. I am at boruwa lane. I don’t know the area but that is where I am, on the road”. I said hurridly “What are you doing there and where the hell is that?” she asked then paused to ask Tony before she said, “Tony knows the place, stay where you are baby, we are coming”. She said and hung up.

    The breeze turned cold and I looked at the sky and I noticed that it was about to rain. My tears started coming more frequently and I tried to subside it. I noticed that the bushes were moving and I thought it was due to the breeze. I moved slowly so that I would be easy to locate. I heard something that resembles footsteps and I stood completely still but I almost passed out when I heard two people’s voices coming closer.

    I scanned the area quickly and saw a place where the bush was thicker and ran there silently. I entered the bush without thinking about the snakes and scorpions I might find there. I saw two guys and I identified them to be the guys who abducted me; they were obviously searching for me. I stood completely still even my breath seemed to cease. They started scanning the area and when one of them looked in my direction, I expected him to see me instantly and just pick me out of the bush but instead, he looked away. I breathed out but stood still for fear of giving myself away.

    “Ei, I don die”, one of them said, placing his hands on his head. “Ahhh, see gbege. Which kind sleep we sleep so, ehn? Wetin we go tell oga Tolu now?” the other said I scanned my head to see if I knew any Tolu but I didn’t. “Oga Tolu palava no worse reach Oga Tunji own, him go kill us”, the first said. “na you cause am o spanner, why you sleep after I tell you say make you watch the girl”.

    The other whose name I now knew was spanner said, “you no well. Make I dey watch person when you dey sleep abi? Na me no sabi sleep?” spanner asked the other. He didn’t answer, so they started scanning the area again. Spanner saw something and stopped.

    “Sparrow….” He called and pointed a place to him. They both looked there and I found myself looking in that direction too. I saw a light that looked very much like a headlight. My immediate thought went to Tony and Prisca and I started thinking of how I would get out my phone without catching the attention of the two guys. I looked at the two guys and noticed that they were moving 

    I brought out my phone and dialed Prisca. She picked almost immediately and I spoke quietly. “Pric, where are you” I asked. “I was just about to call, we are at Boruwa lane now but we can’t find you”. “I can see your head lamp so just come forward. The guys are after me and they are few steps away from me. I would start running towards you guys, so pls, open the door so that I can get in immediately you reach me” I said. “ok”, she said and hung up.

    I saw the vehicle coming ahead of me so I said a little prayer and came out of the bush. I started running towards the car, waving at them so that they would recognize me. I noticed that the footsteps I heard were not mine only so I looked back, lo and behold, they were at my heels. I ran with all my might and when I got to the car, it slowed down; the door was already open so I jumped in and the car zoomed off almost running over one of the two.

    Richard smiled from the bottom of his heart for the first time in a long while. He looked at Deji who looked confused with a comforting smile. He looked weak and was fighting sleep as he continually opened his eyes. Richard encouraged him to sleep and he later gave in. Richard stood there for more than ten minutes just staring at him and later went back to his office.

    He got to his office and knelt down beside his table and started thanking God. He had been praying for the past two days and God had just answered his prayers. He placed his head on his table after the prayer, greatly relieved.

    As I entered the car, I collapsed on the back seat for some minutes, my eyes closed without uttering a word. I opened my eyes and saw Prisca staring at me. I knew I must look ragged and dirty but I didn’t even give a damn about how I look. I later opened my mouth and said, “Thanks a lot; I would probably be out of this country by dawn if you guys hadn’t come for me”.

    “What happened Lina? How did you get there?” Prisca asked. “Calm down darling, let her rest, she has been through a lot”, Tony said

    I smiled faintly and simply said, “I would tell you all about it later but what I know is that they were sent by Tunji and I would wager that my dad has a hand in it too”. “What? How can a father do that? No, I don’t think he has a hand in it”, Tony said. I laughed slightly, “Well, you don’t know my father”, I said.

    Prisca placed her hand on my leg comfortingly as I lay on the chair and there was no other discussion until we got to Prisca’s place. I was so weak and I wondered if I would be able to stand not to mention walk with my sore feet, but I did. I walked slowly to the gate and waited for Prisca who was busy talking with tony. I looked back just in time for me to see Tony kiss Prisca good night and I quickly took my face away. Prisca walked up to me some minutes after and I thanked Tony again before he sped off.

    We walked inside on silent feet and we got to Prisca’s bedroom uneventful and even though all I wanted to do was sleep, I removed my clothes and had a warm bath in her bathroom. She also did the same thing and after I had worn a night gown which actually belongs to her, I climbed the bed. All the questions she tried to ask me fell on deaf ears as sleep overtook me.

    Sparrow and spanner had been sitting on the road for more than fifteen minutes and they finally decided to stand up. They just could not believe that Belina had been right beside them and they had not seen her. They headed back to their base thinking of the best way to present the case to Tolu and Tunji.

    Tunji stirred in his sleep as the 6:00 alarm started ringing, he reached for his phone and turn it off. He was usually a late sleeper and most times, he woke up 8 o’clock or 9 o’clock. He had set the alarm yesterday when he was about to sleep because of the level of importance today possed. His phone started ringing shortly after and he ignored it at first, when it rang again, he picked up the phone to check who it was and it was his father. He stared at the phone then finally 

    “Morning dad”, he said. “Morning Tunji, how are you?” his father asked “I am sleepy”, Tunji said grumpily. “Hmmm, I need to see you son, we need to talk” “I am busy dad, you cant see me till next month. I am travelling out today”, Tunji said. “What? Where are you going?” his father asked “it is none of your business dad, I am not a kid anymore”, Tunji said drily. “what does that mean? I am beginning to suspect your movements, if you get into trouble, don’t come to me o” “Don’t worry, I can take care of myself”, he said and dropped the phone.

    Tunji hissed and stood up from the bed. He realized how good a decision it was to move out of his father’s mansion. He had extorted enough money to last him a long while and he had been given one of his father’s companies to manage so money was not the problem. He had appointed someone to run the company because he didn’t want to waste time in the company when he could be out having fun. He hadn’t been free in his father’s mansion; his mother never monitored what he did but whenever his father was not in one meeting or the other, he had to behave. He had various girl friends and whores but they all looked expired to him immediately he set his eyes on Belina.

    He stood up and went to the bathroom to take a shower. He had booked a morning flight so he showered, dressed and stepped out of his room. He got to the sitting room and noticed that he did not put off the Tv yesternight. He put it off and went off to pick his soon-to-be bride.

    Mr. badmus woke up really early and started packing his things to his car. He loaded the trunk with his things and when he saw that he still had enough time, he decided to pick few for Belina.

    He got to her room and saw that her clothes were inside her boxes but her shirts were on the hanger. Always neat Belina, he thought. He wanted to select but he didn’t have the patience to do so because he was hungry so he just carried one box and left. He dropped it in the trunk of his car and went back inside to make himself breakfast.

    It had been a while since he made breakfast by himself cos Belina always took care of that but he had no option today. He took out the remaining sliced bread in the fridge and started frying the eggs he had bought yesterday night.

    “..I took the money..” she said with a bit of remorse.

    “Why will you do that Ify? You know that I’m not working and don’t have anyone to give me anything..”

    “I only collected ten thousand Aka, I left the rest of the money for you. When I counted the whole money is about thirty seven thousand seven hundred that’s in there. You still have enough, twenty five thousand should be able to sort you..”

    I scoffed at the audacity in her tone.

    “Ify you don’t have any right to steal my money while I was asleep. I was too tired last night and used my bag as pillow, you had the mind to pull it off and had the effrontery to tell me that it’s only ten thousand.. Do you know how I got the money? What if is somebody’s money.. Ify..?

    “I didn’t steal your money Aka, I took it and didn’t deny taking it. I know how you got it, I’m just surprised at the huge amount for one night of selling your body. I don’t need a suit Sayer to tell me that you are now into prøstĂŻtĂźtÄŤon business. I saw the way you walked in tired, I saw the kind of cloth you wore and the wig too. I saw it all Aka and I’m surprised that you realize so much money just in one night job, well except if you stole your client money..”

    “Point of correction, I’m not into prøstĂŻtĂźtÄŤon and didn’t sell my body to any man. I could have done that because I was in desperate need but God came through for me by using the first person I went to meet to help me. It was plainly a høokup Job, I was hooked to the guy by a close ally whom I suppose to give some of the money you took. PrøstĂŻtĂźtÄŤon is when you have to go marketing your body, standing by a busy street or calling out to guys to check you out. I never did any of that and God will not allow my misery to come down to such..”

    “Aka, I don’t really care how you got the money. is your body and you are free to use it as you please. My only concern is that I noticed that you’re stingy, you secretly spend your money and will hardly drop a dime for upkeep of the house. You know you’re living rent free in my boyfriend’s house? We don’t collect rent from you yet when you have money, you will never contribute to anything except yourself…”

    “That’s not true, I fetch water for you, Uche and I everyweek with my money. Is only when I was running out of cash, I began to fetch a little for myself. You’ve collected money twice from me to fill gas and I have also fill atleast one kg about twice. I came with so many things from the village, you and Uche gave some of it out without my knowledge and Whenever I cook, I make sure you’re and Uche eats out of it. But sometimes, the food will not even reach me twice. There’s a time I cooked rice and beans and went for job hunt, by the time I return, Uche and Leba ate all the food, I was very angry but I couldn’t do anything. I make sure I contribute my quota Ify. If you want me to start paying rent, you should’ve said so initially…”

    “I’m not saying you should start paying rent, I’m only suggesting that you stop being self centered because you’re not the only one in need of money. I needed the ten thousand because I don’t have anything on me. Maybe I should’ve told you first but you will never give me anything, highest maybe one thousand naira and that’s all. If not that Uche and i are nice people, with your high level of stinginess, we would have kicked you out into the street but we didn’t. Start doing the right thing, when you keep hiding to spend your money, you aren’t wise but very føôlish. That must be the reason that your father in the village lĂ­ed that he was sick just to collect more than thirteen thousand from you. That’s the best way to treat stĂ­ngy people like you…’

    I walked away from her, it was unnecessary throwing words back and forth.

    I felt really bad that she will say such.

    I never even knew that my father was lying to be sick and I collected thirteen thousand.

    I was trying to do the exact thing he failed to do as a father, by saving money for my school registration.

    But each time I save, one family issue or the other will come up and I will end up spending it all and that was the reason I never went back to school

    Ify said I’m selfish because I didn’t bring out all the money I have for them to spend it all. 

    Who will feed me or take care of my petty expenses because she and her boyfriend will never give me a second look even if I’m dying of hunger.

    We all ate everything I came from the village with and i contribute when necessary yet Ify said I wasn’t doing enough.

    Despite I’m not working, she didn’t consider that.

    She’s reminding me of not paying rent.

    That’s very insensitive of her, I’m not surprise.

    When Leba came back she called me into her room for update.

    I told her that the guy gave me fifteen thousand. 

    Leba said I will give her five thousand and take ten.

    She was impressed.

    She asked me to gist her on how I performed, I didn’t perform anything but instead of talking I only smile

    She began to laugh saying I was shy of gisting her

     Leba asked to know if he needs my service again or I want a different hoøk up.

    I told her I’m not doing again.

    She asked to know why, I had to explain to her what happened.

    Leba didn’t believe me

    “You didn’t do anything and he gave you a whole fifteen thousand? Please reduce the level of your lying Aka. I’m into this game before you and I know how it goes. I only get seven thousand from last night job, it wasn’t much but very normal. sometimes I get like ten, twelve and on a rare occasion fifteen and twenty. If it’s a full booking, like two nights straight I will be coming home with twenty or twenty five thousand and if he’s stinking rich, I will get more than that. I’m gathering my money to rent a mini flat. I have even contacted an agent to start searching for house and the total amount is three hundred thousand, in a nice area. I have set aside money for furnishing. Is from this same høokup money I sent to my people. I got responsibility, is not like I have a choice or enjoying the hoøkup job but which company will pay me more than hundred thousand in a month with my school cert? I don’t even have the patient to work for anyone. I hustle legit and I’m paying my bills effortlessly…”

    “… you don’t need to lie because like I already told you, I know this game more than you do and I’m yet to meet that angel that will not touch me but still pay me. Just give me five thousand my darling and keep the rest. Anytime you need a høokup Job, just let me know. I did a fine make-up for you, that must be the reason the guy couldn’t get enough of you..”

    I laughed and told her that the guy said the make up was terrible 

    Leba was laughing so hard

    She said he was only teasing me.

    I returned her cloth, shoes and other items with the five thousand that she asked me to give her

    Three days later, Leba called me and said I was a liâr, she said Ify told her that I collected More than thirty five thousand that night.

    I explained to her how the guy wanted me to get a phone but Ify collect ten thousand from the money.

    Leba said is all good, maybe the guy wanted to keep booking me, she said I should try and get a phone quick so that I can call him.

    She didn’t make any trøuble with me and that was how it ended.

    I bought a small phone and a sim card.

    The first person I called was mama Zaram.

    Tony walked around the hospital checking on patients. After he left Richard, he had gone to the hospital cos he was doing night today. Thanks to the little sleep he had gotten during the day, he wasn’t feeling dizzy.

    As he was going round, he saw someone that looked like Richard but dismissed it. When he passed by Richard’s office and met the light on, he knew he must be in there. He opened the door without knocking and saw Richard sitting on his chair going through some books.

    “What are you doing here?” Tony asked clearly surprised. “Exactly what you are doing here”, Richard replied and said, “I need to check on the patient in ward C. I was just coming from there and would be going there in the next one hour to ensure that he is still stable”.

    Tony stared at Richard for some minutes, sighed and sat down. “You are putting yourself into too much stress Rich, why are you doing this to yourself?” he asked. “I am not doing anything Tony”, Richard replied.

    Tony stood up and walked up to Richard; “you need to stop blaming yourself for what happened to Tonia. Look at yourself, you look drawn and stressed out. You need to sleep” he said sympathetically.

    Richard hated sympathy so he flared up, “I don’t need to sleep.i actually need to remain awake because closing my eyes would only compound my problem, and please, stop fussing around me, I am not a kid. I can take care of myself”. Tony sighed and made to leave. “Tony” Richard called. Tony looked back at Richard. “I am sorry, I am just tensed up” he said. Tony nodded and just as he made to leave again, his phone rang and he looked at the caller.

    “Prisca?” he said looking surprised. He looked at the wall clock and noticed that it was almost 12am. He sat down back and picked the phone. “Sweetheart?” he called “Tony, I am sorry to disturb you” Prisca said. He sensed something odd in her voice and asked, “Are you ok?”

    Prisca explained everything including the fact that Belina would be forced out of the country by dawn if they did not do something about it. Tony listened attentively and when she was through, he said, “Can you sneak out of the house without being seen?” She replied in affirmative and he said, “ok, I would be there in fifteen minutes max. I would call you when I get to your street. Please honey stay inside your compound and not outside, I would pick you up and we would go to her house. We would discuss how we are going to get her out on the way”.

    “Thanks darling, I am sorry for the inconvenience”, Prisca replied greatly relieved.

    Tony dropped the call and Richard started his own round of questioning. Tony explained everything to him and Richard insisted on following him. After convincing him that his would be more useful in the hospital, he set out.

    As I ran out of the house, I noticed that the place was an uncompleted building. I looked around and the only thing that I saw was bushes. I saw a small footpath and started following walking very fast. I had always been extremely afraid of the dark and within seconds, I started contemplating going back. The leaves caught in my hair and my feet hurt because of the several stones I had dashed my bare feet on. I was totally afraid, I heard different types of sounds but the most frustrating this was that I had no idea where I was. I thought of the possibility that there might be snakes and other dangerous animals in the bush and fear gripped my heart.

    I looked around again and saw the bushes and my heart beat skyrocketed several degrees and I soon found myself running. I heard footsteps like I was being pursued but later discovered that I was only imagining it. I didn’t even think about stopping and even the moon seemed to darken. Just when I thought the footpath led to the end of the world, I saw a road ahead of me. I sighed aloud and ran faster until I got there. I stood there trying to see if I had ever been there in order to find a way out but I came up with nothing.

    The road was desolate and I started wondering if any vehicle had ever passed it. I started walking upwards but my feet hurt so much that I feared they would be bleeding and that made my movements slow. I remembered that I was with my bag and I opened it hoping to God that my phone was still there. I zipped it and lo, it was there. I switched it on and noticed that the time was past twelve and immediately, a message entered. When I opened it, I noticed that it was from Prisca. She was asking me why my phone was switched off. I was suddenly grateful that I had a best friend like Prisca. I was about to call her when I remembered that I had no idea what area I was. I intensified my efforts and I got to a T junction. Thanks to the efficient work of Fashola, I saw the street name which read, ‘Boruwa lane’. I instantly dialed her number and all I heard was, “the number you have dialed is switched off, please try again later, thank you”. I almost broke the phone on the floor as tears of anger and sadness flowed down my eyes.

    Kelvin got home really late from the concert and he had a splitting headache. The headache started immediately he set his eyes on Belina and it accelerated when she was called to the altar to sing. He hadn’t seen her for close to two years now and he had wished that he would not but fate always had its way.

    He entered his house and collapsed on the bed. He lived in a one bedroom apartment, although a big one. He was a bachelor so his room was not so decorated. His eyes were swimming with tears but he held it back.

    His mind went back to the time he met Belina and even though he was not happy, a smile formed on his face. She had been sitting down on the field in UNILAG reading a book when all of a sudden, a guy walked up to her. He had been watching her for more than ten minutes when that big headed goat approached her. From her facial expression, he knew that she didn’t appreciate his visit and instantly headed toward her. He got there and wanted to beat the life out of that guy but kept his calm. The expression on her face when she had looked at him that day made him really feel handsome. People had told him he was good looking but he hadn’t believed it until Belina looked at him.

    He stood up from the chair and moved to the fridge to pick out a bottle of cold beer. He had been friends with Belina for more than a year and after that, he had asked her out and after a little persuasion, she had accepted and then, just a week after her mother’s death, precisely six months into the relationship, he had blown them apart with his stupidity. He started drinking immediately he left her because he became very unhappy and miserable. It was then he realized that she was his source of happiness.

    Richard was worried about Tony and Prisca being outside so late but there was nothing he could do about it thought he knew that Tony could take care of himself and his baby girl. He headed towards Ward C even though it wasn’t 1am yet, not even 12:30 but he went there all the same. As he passed, he received greetings from some nurses and he smiled at them as he responded. He noticed those that were bent on flirting with him till he notices them but paid them no heed.

    He entered Deji’s room and just stood there, staring at him. After some minutes, he went over to check on him. He cross-checked his heart beat, the drip bag, the temperature and other things looking for any anomaly but found none. He headed back to him office but stopped at the door when he heard some sounds. He rushed back to Deji’s bed as he noticed that he was moving restlessly. Richard prayed in his heart and tried to calm him down and just like a miracle; Deji calmed down and opened his eyes.

    Sparrow woke up to a full bladder and he stood up, went outside and released the urine. He came back inside and just as he was about lying down, he noticed something was missing. He looked round the small room and just when he felt everything was intact, he looked at the place the girl was lying, saw nothing and his eyes widened. He stood up and went to inspect the place very well to be sure that his eyes were not playing tricks but found no one. He went to spanner who was still snoring soundly and kicked him so hard that he woke up in an instant.

    “Wetin be your problem now?” spanner asked “Where is the girl?” “Which girl?” spanner asked Sparrow hissed, “Which kind foolish question be dat? Wey the girl wey we bring come here?” he asked louder. Spanner looked round and exclaimed, “Chai, our own don finish. I no no where she dey o”. Without saying anything, they both set out to look for Belina.

    As tony and Prisca made for Belina’s place, they noticed that the road was empty and so they made were not scared of encountering any traffic. Prisca was worried that something was wrong so tony held her hand using one hand to control the steering. “Don’t worry honey; I am sure she is ok. Uhhh, why don’t you call her, she might have switched on the phone”, tony said. Prisca nodded and took her phone only to find it off. “oh, the battery is flat, give me yours” she said. Tony gave her his phone and she dialed Belina’s number which she knew off head and it rang. She almost danced for joy when it rang and she heard, “hello…”

    Mr Badmus was trying hard to find sleep but he could not. He was just too happy to sleep. He stood up again to check if he had packed all he needed for the journey and discovered that he had packed everything.

    He had resigned from his job as a cashier during the day even though he had been on leave and was not due to return until the following week. He went back to bed and sighed happily. His plan had worked and he just could not contain his happiness. He thought about Belina and smiled devilishly. That stubborn bastard thought that she would not be useful for anything, well I have proved to her that I always have my way whenever I want to; he thought.

    He rolled on the bed and started thinking about life in London. It had been a while he travelled out and he wanted to ensure that he did not come back an average man. ‘I would be stinkingly rich again’, he said audibly and after sometime, he was finally able to sleep and he dreamt of his life in London.

    Stanley can’t really tell why he was upset but he was definitely not in a friendly mood

    But he knows that no matter how vexed he seems, promise, his friend will not have it.

    Promise has a running mouth and even though he knows and does his job well but he can be very trøublesome.

    “Hmmm…” Promise finally opened his mouth to talk.

    “… Stanley look, forget this boss of a thing, no be me do you o. Abi you see me for your dream? Whatever maybe your problem that’s making you act this way this morning better go and sort it out o, Wetin sef! I say make you find babe you no gree! leave me o. If you lack whom to call early in the morning don’t call me because I’ve tried for you. No wake me for my sleep again guy, I go change am for you o”. Promise said acting upset.

    “Hahaha, really? So because God manage give you that girl now you won’t allow me hear word abi? Look, I don’t even have your time now, just dress well and lock the door behind you. You never marry you don dey dress like ma’d man, when you born children nko…” Stanley fired back while smiling.

    Stanley flashed back to Jane and again and began to smile this time.

    Even though it has been mixed feeling but every thought of the girl bring calmness to his heart. 

    Stanley can’t fathom why he’s feeling jealous and happy ever since he saw Jane, for the fact that he couldn’t speak with her made him have this mixed feeling, he can’t get her off his mind. 

    “Better go and find who you will vent your anger on. Am off to my office”. Promise lastly said without waiting for any reply from Stanley

    Fews months to Grace’s wedding Stanley bumped into Jane at the mall as she goes to buy fews things for her friend. 

    Stanley on the other hand also went there to get something for himself. 

    On his way out, he saw someone he recognized coming to his direction. He started thinking where he must’ve seen that face before.

    the face looks familiar he thought as he would not stop staring at her.

    “Oh no! This beauty again? I remember…the restaurant”. He said.

     Already carried away by her thoughts that he didn’t realize when the things he bought fell to the ground.

    “Hello…Excuse me sir, is everything okay with you? I mean, you look lost in your thought that you didn’t notice this”. She said as she bends to help him pick his things from the ground. Stanley keeps staring at her without a word.

    “How can a beauty be this humble and kind? God”. He said deeply 

    “…a woman can not be this perfect. Her worst part must be bigger than her good part. Stanley thought to himself

    “Sir, I think you should take things easy, though don’t know what may be wrong but I believe all will be fine”. Jane said as she hand over the things to Stanley smiling.

     but as he stretched his hand to grab them he ended up holding her hand still looking at her deeply.

    In that second, the feeling was overwhelming for him

    It felt like the breeze stopped blowing.

     is he in another planet? 

    What a beauty!

    evethings seems to have stopped at that instance, he can only hear his breath in the big mall.

     Everything seems silent

     His heart was racing fast as he stared at her.
