Heart Doctor 2 – Episode15

Amanda woke up with half a smiling face and half a sad face. It felt like living in two different worlds at the same time.

One, she was happy that Desmond confessed his love for her, on the other hand she was sad that Odeya is somewhere else.

She miss her.

As she brushed her teeth, she wouldn’t stop thinking about the kiss. She had a night filled with dreamful sleep. Dreams about Desmond and her.

‘I wish I could stop thinking for a moment’ she told herself but alas, the next minute she is recalling and reminiscing again.

She washed her mouth and face, wiped off and walked out of the bathroom.

Her phone began ringing and she went for it and a hiss escaped her lips as she saw the caller. ‘ekene’
She ignored the call and looked at herself on the full length mirror. She noticed that her pajamas was getting worn out.

“I have to buy a new one.. And what’s this spot on my face. Why now?” she unpacked her hair and repacked it.

It was at that moment that she saw her erected n***les visible on the night gown.

She quickly grabbed a bra, removed the night gown, wore the bra and changed into a green jogger and a grey polo shirt. She was scared to look sexy in front of him.

Grabbing her phone and throwing it into the jogger pocket, she headed to the door.

On opening the door, she met Desmond standing at the door, on his sleeping wear.

Amanda wasn’t expecting that causing her to widen her eyes.
“S..sir” she stammered. Her heart beat raising instantly and a butterfly feeling in her stomach.

Desmond rubbed his neck like someone who had been tired from standing for too long.

“You always woke up earlier than this time, right? what happened today?” he asked.

Amanda opened her mouth without knowing what to answer.

She quickly turned and checked the wall clock in her room. It was 6:03am.

She turned back to Desmond who was now smiling at her.

“I..I ” she had no idea what to answer, worse they were staring at each others eyes. Amanda quickly looked down and greeted. “Good morning sir”

“How was your night Amanda?” Desmond asked, looking at her keenly.

“It was okay sir…and yours?” she asked.

“I had a lot of sleep. I shouldn’t have right?” he asked.

Amanda looked up at him”sir?”
“Will you stop calling me sir?” he said.

She looked away shyly and said, “It won’t be easy”

“It is very easy..” Desmond said then after a second silence, said, “you look great. Had no idea green and grey could fit so perfectly.”

Amanda couldn’t explain how she felt at that moment. It was such a simple way of saying to her, you look beautiful even in such dressing.

She couldn’t help the smile that showed up on her face which Desmond saw too.

He took her hands. “Let me take you somewhere today”

She turned to him. “Ain’t you going to work?”

“I’m sorry I have to but I’m gonna be back as early as 12pm. I have something to tell you too.”

“What’s that?” Amanda asked.
“Vanessa and I spoke again last night. She gave me an address of where to meet her. I’m going there after getting to the office. I’m just gonna talk about my daughter with her then come back for you. If I bring Odeya with me, fine and if I don’t. She would take care of her.” Desmond said.

Amanda after a while nodded. “Alright. I’ll be here waiting.” she said.

Desmond smiled and kissed her. Withdrawing he released her hands which he had been holding.
“I just need my usual breakfast.” he said.

Amanda nodded. “Okay sir…oh,”
Desmond chuckled then kissed her on the cheek. “I’m going to take a shower. Wanna join?” he asked.

Amanda looked away shyly, with a smile.

Desmond smiled and went into his room. Once he did, Amanda’s phone began ringing again. She wanted to ignore it, with thought it would be Ekene but then took it out and saw it was her mom calling.

She inhaled, exhaled and picked up. Placing it on her ear she said. “Mama, I’m going to call you back.” and without waiting for her mom to talk, she ended the call, dropped the phone back in her pocket and headed to Desmond’s room.

(Somewhere in Lagos, mainland. Mama Amanda’s residence)

Mama Amanda stared at her phone for awhile then turned to Ekene who was standing, vexed up.

“You have seen it now ehn. I have called her and she said she would call me back. My daughter is very very busy now and don’t have time talk more of a time for someone like you. Ekene I have warned you not to step your foot into my house again. You don’t listen. Don’t let me show you the other side of me o.. Leave my house and my daughter alone.”

“Mama stop that thing wey you dey talk. So you dey tell me say Amanda don leave me because of one idiot wey get small money abi. Me and Amanda no fit leave each other o mama. I go marry Amanda.. Amanda no fit leave me.
 I know my Amanda. She no fit” ekene bursted.

“Bia Ekene if you don’t leave this compound this minute, I will call people who would carry you and this your keke out of here. Oya!”
“Mama you know say I dey give you befitting respect wet you deserve. I go go o but I go come back later. Tell Amanda make she pick my call make we reason before I loose my temper o. She no go like am if I do. If I do, I go find am go anywhere wet she dey. Bye bye mama.” He said, entered his keke then sped off.

Mama jammed her hands together. “Hia! Wonders shall never end! Look at this idiot o. When I first met this boy with my daughter, I knew he was of no good and use! Thank God that my Amanda is somewhere away from him. Tufiakwa, Chuckwu jukwa nwa nka!”

A neighbour named Mommy Dera came out from her apartment.
“Mama Amanda, is this boy still coming here?” she asked.

“Yes o. there’s no way I haven’t told this boy to stay clear off my door and my daughter. Thank God for where she is now.”

“Next time he comes, make sure you teach him a lesson. Get him arrested.” Mommy Dera said.

“Hia.. Arrest. Arrest that even me will pay. Na all this boys I go call to deal with him.”

Mommy Dera bursted into laughter. “Ah mama Amanda. Is it not just small money that you will just give them to arrest him and let him stay in the cell for awhile”
“Don’t even say that. If is Ekene, Cell is another of his home.”
 Mama said and both bursted into laughter.

“But anyway, your daughter. How is she? Hope you do hear from her?” Mommy Dera asked after laughing to her fill.

“Yes o. She said she will call me back sef. I’m waiting for her call.” Mama said.

“Biko if she call, give me phone to say hi.”

“Are you not going to work today?”
“No i’m not. Let’s rest today biko.
 All this work work, na for body o.”
“Abi, na true my sister.”

(Desmond residence)

Desmond walked out of the ensuite and was surprised on what he saw on his bed.

A black suite and trouser lay on the bed. A white Shirt. A black with white stripe tie. His black shoes, all out.

Who could have done this but Amanda.

Desmond was too overwhelmed not to smile widely.

It was such a sweet sight.

Who had ever done this for him except his mom when he was still in secondary school. She’d iron his school uniforms herself and lay it out for him on his bed.

He walked over and picked up the shirt.

“Like she knew I was going to wear this. How did she know?” he asked himself. Smiling, he dropped it and took his phone. Dialed her line and it rang.

Amanda was cleaning the kitchen when her phone rang. This time around she thought it was her mom calling again but when she took it out, she smiled when she saw it was Desmond calling.

“Why is he calling me when we are still in the same house. This is what living in a mansion causes.” she muttered as she picked it up and placed it on her ear.

“Hello si…” she paused. She almost said ‘sir’

“Amanda, I just saw you come into my room without my permission and then you touched my wardeobe without my permission too. What do you want your punishment to be?” he asked.
Amanda inhaled.. She knew he wasn’t upset with the way his voice sounded.

“I’m sorry. I thought you’d be at the office faster if I help with that.” She said.

There was a little silence before he broke it. “You make my heart fluster Amanda. I thought it’d be a crime for a woman to make my heart fluster again but I found out that it only depends on the kind of woman I fall in love with for the second time. I believe it wasn’t a crime for Desmond Okoye to fall in love with Chimamanda Ekeh in only but few days. I do watch such in movies and hardly believes such could happen in the real world. Amanda I believe you were meant for me even before we met. I believe you are the woman I’m supposed to marry. I’m gonna marry you Amanda and no time will be wasted.”

Amanda placed her hand on her mouth.. She felt tears in her mouth and she was afraid to burst into a cry.

Even though it was only but a few words, it was really touching and beautiful to her.

“Hey you can’t say, yes, I will marry you?” Desmond joked after waiting for awhile and no response was coming. Though that wasn’t the response he was expecting.

Amanda was about to say something when he cut in. “..Do you know how to fix a tie, if you do, come upstairs to my room.”
No response. Amanda’s tears were pouring.

“Did you hear me? Did I say something wrong?” Desmond asked, getting frightened. He would run downstairs in the next second.

Amanda shook her head as if he’s seeing her do that. “No..no sir..I mean.. I do. I’ll be there in a minute” she managed to say amidst tears then ended the call.

Desmond stared at his phone screen like he would get the answer of why the change in her voice from there.

“Was she crying?” he asked himself.

•^•• He had put on the trouser, shirt, and was on the his shoes when a knock came on the door.
“Come in Amanda.” he said.
The door opened and she gently walked in. Her face had been thoroughly wiped but her eyes were still a bit red.

“That was a lot of time. I might end of being late at work while waiting for you.” he joked.

“I’m sorry..” she said.

“I didn’t say that for you to tell me sorry.” he said.

He stood up. “Here, help me please” he said stretching the tie to her. She collected it and stepped closer to him. But it was still a bit far. Desmond’s hand went behind her and he pulled her almost into him..

Amanda looked at him and he smiled.

She put the tie around his neck and began to fix it. Desmond’s eyes were on her eyes, nose, lips, hair as he admired her beautiful face.

Amanda finished up in a minute.
“Done,” she said and tried to step back but Desmond grabbed her from behind and pulled her into him.

Then joined his other hand too.

“Thank you Amanda.” he said.

Amanda couldn’t breath.

“I love you so much Amanda. Thank you for coming into my life.” he said then released the hug and kissed her forehead.

“Let’s go have breakfast.” he said.
Amanda carried his briefcase and they went downstairs holding hands.

They had breakfast of tea and buttered bread together.

Then Amanda gave him his briefcase at the door and he kissed her on the lips.

“I will be back soon.” he said and left.

Amanda watched him from the window, as he entered his car and drove out.

I.K locked the gate and began coming towards the house.

“I.K and his trouble.” Amanda said then exhaled. “I miss Deya.”

“Deya, after I meet with your dad today. I’m leaving with you tomorrow. I know you can’t wait to see granny and granpa. They miss you. Your new dad is waiting anxiously to see you too. Get prepared and be happy my baby.” Vanessa said to Odeya who was eating.

Suddenly Odeya threw the plate of food away. “I don’t need a new dad. Take me back to my dad. I don’t wanna go with you again. I’ve made a lot of friends here and they are all nice to me. I don’t wanna go away from Jeremy, from my dad and from my nanny. I can’t go with you to a new daddy. Take me back to my dad now mom.”

Vanessa bursted into an annoying laughter.

“Look at my little child talking. You are so bold to talk to me this way honey. You can’t talk this way to me. I can’t take you back to your dad dear. I am your mom who you should be with. I had you in my tummy, I gave birth to you and it was a hell of a pain there in the labour room. You are to grow up under my care, you get that?” Vanessa said and grabbed the landline.

“Get here, Deya made some mess.”
Odeya bursted into a loud cry.

“I can never leave with you again mom!”

“Then you can’t leave with your dad too!” Vanessa said.

“I will! Dad is a million times better than you!” Odeya said.
“shut your little mouth!” Vanessa said and snatched the glass of wine which she held.

Odeya looked at where the glass was shattered then stood up and began going there.

“What are you doing, where are you going Odeya? Don’t go there, you will get hurt.” Vanessa said but Odeya was there already and without hesitating, she matched on the sharp glasses and screamed out.

(Hours later, at Queencare Hospital )

Desmond and Vanessa both stared at their selves for what seem like ages then Desmond broke the silence.

“Where’s my daughter?”

“She is my daughter.” Vanessa said.

“Where is my Odeya?” Desmond asked.

“She’s my Odeya. I gave her that name.” Vanessa threw back.

“Why here instead of where my daughter is supposed to be??” Desmond asked.

“My daughter got hurt, that’s the a reason for her being here.” Vanessa said.

“What right do you have to call her your daughter?” Desmond asked.

“Cos she is my daughter and I am her mother.” Vanessa said.

“You barely gave birth to her when I caught you with another man who you were giving your whole self to like a sex machine.” Desmond said.

“So fucking what? I’m married now but you ain’t. I’m fucking better than you.” she said.

“Leave Nigeria and never step a foot in this country again. You said this country doesn’t suit you, it should never. Go live with your husband and get another daughter if you want..” he said.

Vanessa chuckled.

“Let’s talk somewhere else.” Vanessa said.

“I’m taking my daughter.” Desmond said.

“Yeah you can. She doesn’t want me anymore anyway. I believe I was the worse wife and mother on earth.” Vanessa said.

“I never thought you’d accept so soon. I hope you go back and make your husband more happy.” Desmond said.

“He’s a cheat. He cheats on me every single day.” Vanessa said.
Desmond stared at her for awhile then exhaled.

“You can’t have odeya back. So don’t even have the thought about me Vanessa. I have someone I so much love and she mean the world to me.” Desmond said.

The alarm from Amanda’s phone woke her up from her dreamful sleep.

She opened her eyes, rubbed them and a smile appeared on her face as she recalled the dream she had about Desmond and her.

“Would something like that even happen?” she chuckled and hurried into the bathroom to brush up.

Soon, she was in the kitchen making breakfast and Odeya’s lunch.

As she did them, she wondered what Desmond’s reaction would be when he regains himself.

“I hope this doesn’t cause issues with him and his mom,” She said.
After being done in the kitchen, she went upstairs to prepare Odeya for school.

Desmond rubbed his eyes open and he felt really weak.

Instantly he recalled about the previous night. He had gotten drunk but how did he get to his room.

Okay, he recalled. Amanda had caught him while he was about falling.

“She brought me here?” he asked himself and raised his hand to check his finger. It’s been bandaged.

“She did it,” he said with a sigh..

He rolled the duvet off his body and struggled his still weak body out of the bed.

He glanced at his finger again before entering the bathroom to prepare for work.

(About an hour later )
Amanda was feeding Odeya cos she told her to.

Desmond was seen soon coming downstairs in black suit and his briefcase.

He walked to the dinning table and of course, Amanda avoided to make eye contact with him while Desmond was surprisingly feeling a little uneasy as he settled on the seat facing his daughter.

“Good morning sir. How was your night?” Amanda gasped when she asked him that. What came into her?

The spoon she was about giving Odeya hung close to Odeya’s mouth and Odeya after waiting for few seconds collected the spoon.

While at the other hand, Desmond was scared he’d stutter so he cleared his throat before answering “It it was good”

Amanda sighed within.
She wondered what he’d say in his mind.

Maybe he’d say ‘is she trying to remind me that she helped me out last night?’

Oh my gawd! What have she done!

She tried to collect the spoon but Odeya shook her head. “I will feed myself.”

“O okay.” Amanda said and when she turned, her eyes of course fell on Desmond and she saw that he was looking at her.

She stood up and quickly hurried to the kitchen.

Desmond breathed out.

“Dad are you alright?” Deya asked him, noticing his uneasiness.

“Yes I’m fine dear, eat up” he said and carried his tea cup to drink.
What do he do?

He felt like he is supposed to thank her for helping him last night and treating his wound too but he wondered how he should do that.

“Dad why are you staring at the kitchen door?” Deya asked Desmond thus making him realize that he’s been actually staring at the kitchen doorway.

He quickly turned his eyes back to his cup of tea.

“No, it’s nothing.” he said and sipped from his tea.

“Dad. What happened to your finger?” Deya asked, just noticing the band on his index finger.

Desmond looked at the finger and wondered what lie he’s going to tell to his daughter.

If only he remembered and practiced what he’s going to say.

“I..it’s a little cut.” he said.

“How did you had it, did it hurt?” she asked.

“It’s.. It’s from the knife. I was trying to cut an apple last night. It doesn’t hurt.” he lied.

“Sorry dad,” she said.

“Thank you baby” Desmond said and exhaled.

“Oh gosh, I cant look at his eyes. It reminds me of the dream.” Amanda mumbled to herself in the kitchen.

She sat on the breakfast bar and placed her head on the table.

“What is going on” she asked herself.

Five minutes later, she walked back to the dinning with Deya’s lunch box.

The duo were both done with their breakfast.

Desmond on seeing Amanda, stood up immediately and pecked Deya.

“I’m leaving now baby. Take care of yourself.” he said.

“bye dad,” Deya said.

Desmond grabbed his briefcase and he wondered why he had to take a glance at Amanda and Amanda wondered why she had to look up at him at that moment thus their eyes met.

Desmond turned and walked away while Amanda picked up the dirty dishes and cup.

“Are you worried about my dad, nanny?” Deya asked.

“Huh?” Amanda looked at her.
Deya said nothing again and Amanda carried the dishes to the kitchen.

‘Yes Deya, I am. I’m worried that I’m in love with your dad. I’m worried about so many things.’

She dropped the dishes and walked back to the dinning. “Let’s go.” she said.

Amanda waved Odeya ‘bye’ as she walked to her seat.

Her classmates were all happy to see her. It felt like a celebrity and her fans.

Amanda waved a bye to her and finally left.

As they drove back home, Peter kicked up a conversation.

“Amanda, so how is the gold digger?”

“Don’t call her that please. I haven’t spoken with her friend today. I would do that once I get home to know the situation. For her to get freed, she needs Mr Desmond’s sincere forgiveness.” Amanda said.

“Nawa oh.. How can such a beautiful lady indulge herself in such thing! Wasn’t it the same day we heard the news about the woman who had been controlling her husband for ten years?” He asked.

“Yes it was. I feel sad for her. I hope he forgives her soon or she might not be able to regain herself” Amanda said.

“I hope so but it won’t be easy.” he said.

“Yeah it won’t.” Amanda said.

Getting home, Amanda walked into the house and straight upstairs. She always have this habit of forgetting her phone since there’s nothing really important that she does with it except receiving and making calls. Though she’s on Facebook and WhatsApp but she hardly log into them.

She grabbed the phone from the bed and made a call to Chioma.

It rang but wasn’t picked.

She called again and it was picked.
“Hello Amanda, sorry I was in the bathroom,” Chioma said.

“No, it’s no problem. How had it been? Was the money taken to him?” Amanda asked.

“Yes of course, it was. She won’t die like the native doctor said and that she will be cured which wont really cure her completely without Desmond’s forgiveness. After the sixty percent cure we can take her home and try to bring Desmond to her and make him forgive her.” Chioma said.

Amanda exhaled. “At least it’s nice to hear that she won’t die and also she’d be cured even if it isn’t completely. We are trying our best to make him change his mind. Once he do, he will forgive her.” she said.

“I’m counting on you Amanda. Please help my friend,” Chioma said.

“I will try my best.” Amanda said.

“Thank you” Chioma said.

After the call dropped, Amanda sat on the edge of her bed and sighed.

“How do I go about this.. This is pretty hard.” she said.

At Desmond’s office, Standing in front of Desmond was Henry who wore his neatly ironed black Suit but his face held sadness.

“I’m sorry Desmond. I had no idea what she truly was. I had always thought of her as a good girl. You can’t do this to me Desmond. It is me, Henry. I understand I’m connected to this but please pardon me.” Henry pleaded.

Desmond threw him the sack letter.

“There’s no point pleading. I can’t take back my words. Leave my office Henry.” Desmond said.

“Desmond…”

“Fine.. I will call the security” Desmond said and picked up the telephone, dialed and placed it at his ear.

“Yes, hurry over to my office. There’s someone you need to take out ” he said.

“Desmond, no I can’t leave this way. I still want to work for you please. Let’s talk things out. We are best friends,” Henry said.

“I think that was the mistake I made, making my best friend my secretary. I should have known that there were consequences like this. Work mode, friend mode. Tch! That was so dumb!” Desmond said.

“Desmond please listen to me.. I’m saying the truth. I was damn curious too on how she was able to win your heart in just two days. I wanted to find out, so also was my sister,” Henry said
The door opened and two securities walked in.

“Get him out of here,” Desmond said.

The securities grabbed Henry.
“No no, let me go. I have to talk to him.. Desmond please don’t do this to me.. Desmonddddd” Henry begged as they dragged him out of the office and closed the door.

Desmond felt tears in his eyes.

He felt like rushing out and bringing him back.

He love Henry since university.

There were course mates and Henry was a great help to him academically while he helped him financially.

They graduated and since he took over his father’s company, he made Henry his secretary and had made out plans of making him the manager in few months time only for this to happen.

He was in deep thoughts when his phone beeped of a message. He hesitantly picked it up and blinked when he saw it’s a message from his daughter’s nanny, Amanda.

His heart skipped instantly.

Amanda had gone to the kitchen to start preparing lunch when she tried making use of the sink but the faucet wasn’t working anymore.

She tried numerous times but no water dropped. She went to I.K who went and tried with his man power but it was the same answer.
“What do I do now, I need to start cooking,” Amanda said.

“I no know oh.. For three years wey I don live here, this kind thing never happen” I.K said.

“Really? Ah.. What will I do now.” Amanda lamented.

“I think you go call Oga tell am.. He go tell us wetin we go do,” I.K said.

‘Call Oga?’ Amanda doesn’t even want to think of that. She’d end of stammering with her heart beating so fast.

There’s another way. Text him.
She picked her phone and began texting him.

“Wetin you dey do?” I.K asked.

“I will explain it better on text message,” She said.

“Ehe? Okay.” I.K said.

Desmond read the message.
Hello sir, there’s a problem with my cooking this afternoon. The sink faucet isn’t working. I and I.k have tried a thousand times, but there isn’t even a drop of water. What do I do sir?

Desmond breathed out and placed his hand on his chest.

“Was that it? Why did my heart skip like that?” he asked himself.
He clicked on reply message.

You don’t have to worry OK?…

He paused.

OK? Is it necessary for him to put OK? He deleted it.

…You don’t have to worry about it. I’ll call a plumper right away.

he read it over and over again before sending it.

Seconds later, a new message came in. He opened it.

Okay sir. I’m be waiting,
He clicked on reply message then paused.

“Is there any need to reply her?” he asked himself then dropped the phone. “No, there isn’t
“
Oh the plumber. He picked the phone and called the man.

After speaking with the man who said he’d be on his way right away, Desmond stared at his phone for awhile before dropping it. Then immediately an idea came into his head.

“What if I use a text message to send my thank you to her? It will feel less awkward right?” he thought.

“He said he would call a plumper,” Amanda said to I.k who was sitting on the breakfast bar.

“Okay na,” I.K said.

“So now, I think you should go back to your post. Thank you,” Amanda said.

I.k sighed. “Ah ah, calm down na. Your blood too dey hot. No body dey come for gate for this time,” he said.

Amanda looked at him with a playful evil eyes.

“What about the plumber?” she asked.

He stood up. “Oh na true oh,”
He hurried out.

Amanda exhaled and clicked on her phone..

Her text message chat with Desmond came on.

She stared at if for a moment before taking off the Apron. She dropped it and walked out of the kitchen to the sitting room.

Is she expecting him to reply her?
What exactly would he reply?

She sat down and was about taking the remote from the table when a text message bumped in.
She rushed it and her heart skipped when she saw it’s from him.

I just wanna inform you not to leave the man alone in the kitchen. Stay with him as he works.

Amanda chuckled.

Is he scared or what?

“Should I reply?” she asked herself but before she could stop herself, she had typed already.

I will sir. and sent.

Desmond clicked on the reply message.

He was about to say it..

He typed
Thank you for treating my wound last night and sorry for giving you such a hard time helping me to my room because i was drunk
He read it over and over again before sending it with shaking hand.

He stared at his phone screen, waiting for her reply.

The smile that appeared on Amanda’s lips as she read the message was wider than the river Nile.

“Oh my God.. What do I reply? Should I really reply?” she asked herself but she couldn’t help it.
She did.

It’s okay sir but be careful not to drink more than one another time..

“I hope it isn’t offensive,” She said before sending it.

Desmond chuckled when he read it.

“Okay, I’m a light head I know it.” he said and clicked on reply message.

I know the message you are trying to pass already. Of course I only wanted one can but your call made me take three. he sent.

Amanda sighed when she read the message. She quickly clicked on reply.

Please don’t be mad at your mom. I promise to leave after my first salary if you want me to.

Even though she doesn’t even want to think of leaving here, she had to send it so she did.

Desmond exhaled when he read the message.

“It’s funny but I can’t think of sacking you. It doesn’t even play in my head,” he said.

He had no idea what to reply..
A door came on his office door and then opened. The manager walked in.

“Director, why are we having an urgent meeting?” The Manager asked.

“Cos I sacked my secretary. I’ll need a new secretary,” Desmond said.

“What??”

Amanda waited for Desmond’s reply but none came.

“Why don’t he want to reply? Does it mean he’s really going to sack me?” she asked herself.

She felt kinda scared about it.
The plumber arrived and immediately got to work.

Amanda stayed with him and because the man was a really good gist man, Amanda felt less bothered about Desmond’s reply.

At the mall, they shopped a lot of clothes, shoes and bags for Odeya. Then Desmond told Amanda to pick anything she likes as well but Amanda wasn’t confident to do so.

“No sir, I’m fine. Thank you,” she said.

Desmond went off and soon came out with a really beautiful light purple dress and on his other hand is a silver shoes which would fit perfectly with the dress.

He raised them at Amanda’s face.

“I think this would look good on you,” he said and of course he had no idea how Amanda’s heart sank at that. She quickly turned her back on him and placed her hand on her heart and of course Odeya saw that but she was too busy with something else.

‘What I’m I seeing? He picked it out and said it’d look good on me?
 Has he been checking me out? Oh my God. What do I do, what do I say?’

She breathed in then out and turned back to Desmond who still held the things.

“Ah.. I’m I..” Her words were failing her.

“Check it out, you can.” Desmond said.

Amanda collected them.

“Wow.. Beautiful couple,” One of the attendant said.

Both Desmond and Amanda looked at the lady “We are not couple.” they both said at the sane time.

The lady made an awkward smile.
 “Oh sorry, I really thought so. Come with me ma’am.”

Amanda followed her.

“Dad this is cute right?” Odeya asked her dad, showing him a matched Shirt and cap with the same design.

“Yeah it is but that’s a boy’s thing,” Desmond said.

“Yeah I know. I’m giving it to Jeremy.” she said.

Desmond couldn’t believe it. “You are giving it to Jeremy?”

“Yes dad. It look pretty right?”

“Yeah of course it does.” Desmond said and chuckled.

At the dressing room, Amanda wore the dress and shoes and the attendant’s jaw dropped.

“Oh my goodness.. This is so beautiful and perfect! I’m so jealous ma’am. You look like a total celebrity queen. Come on ma’am, he need to see you dressed in this.” she said.

“No no, I don’t want to. He’s my boss and don’t need to see me. I will take them off now,” Amanda said and went in to take them off.
“Her boss? Wow! I wish I had such a boss!” The lady said.

As Amanda walked back to Desmond and Odeya, Desmond was disappointed to see her not in the dress.

He was surprised at himself with the way he suddenly felt.
‘Was I expecting her to show me the dress on her? Was I?’ he questioned himself and it was obvious that he was.

He was expecting her to show him the dress on her. Like it’s a normal thing Ladies always do that.

‘Silly, she’s my daughter’s nanny, but…’

“Dad you’ve been staring at my nanny for too long.” Odeya said. Amanda who had no idea raised her face and looked at Desmond. Their eyes met.

Desmond immediately removed his eyes and turned to Odeya..

“Really.. It’s because there was something on her face,” Desmond lied.

“What was that?”

“I think a cloth thread but it’s out now.” Desmond said.

“But there wasn’t any cloth thread on her face,” Odeya said.

Desmond sighed. “Come on baby, let’s go to the counter and pay up.” he said and grabbed her hand.
The attendant carried their purchase.

Vanessa picked her phone and called Rock. He picked up after three rings.

“Hello madam..” Rock spoke first.

“Rock, I still need you in this. You and the person will get a $17,000 dollars.” Venessa said.

“Oh my godd!” Rock exclaimed “What do you want me to do and why did you mention me and the person? Who?”

“I need you to find me a guy with the exact body of Desmond. Both tallness, skin color and shape. Someone similar but you don’t need to worry about the face.” Vanessa said.

“Really? Is that all you want?” Rock asked.

“That’s first. I’m making a Desmond’s face mask. The guy would wear it to appear as Desmond and bring Odeya to me,” Vanessa said.

“That’s more like kidnap.. When are you arriving the country?” Rock asked.

“Shut the fuck, It’s not a kidnap. I’m taking my daughter. Just find a guy.” Vanessa said.

“Well, that’s not a prob. I got so many nigga’s like that. I’ll get one.” Rock said.

“If it’s that easy then I’m arriving Tuesday. The job would be on Wednesday. It must be a clean job.” She said.

“Of course. Rock can never make mistakes.” he said.

“Then bye. I would call back tomorrow morning.” she said.
“No prob.” Rock said.

The call ended and Rocks smiled. “Here comes another millions.”

(Later, at night )

After Amanda had put Odeya to sleep.

She went downstairs to wash the dishes in the sink.

While she was doing so, her phone rang and it’s her mother.

She picked it up and knew her mom is going to scold her for not calling or picking her calls all this while.

“Hello mama,” she spoke first.

“Amanda Thank God you picked my call today. I heard everything that happened.” Her mother said.

Just like lady Monica, her mom felt sorry for Gold and said she’d keep praying for God’s mercy upon her and also for Desmond’s heart to soften so he can forgive her too.

“Amanda I think Desmond is truly your husband. ” her mother said.
“What do you mean by he’s truly my husband?” Amanda asked.

“Can’t you see for yourself? That lady wasn’t meant for him.. She used charm on him”

“But that doesn’t mean I’m meant for him or whichever way you want to put it. He has a daughter who only wants her mom and her dad back together.”

“But you love him, don’t you?”

“It’s too early. I’m sure it’s not what it appears to be. I’ve only spent a week here. It’s not possible to fall in love with him that fast.” Amanda said.

“It is very possible. You don’t need to spend years to fall in love with the person whom deserve you.”

“Mom.. You see why I don’t like calling you all the time. You always talk about things like this. Lady Monica told me everything. That this was all a plan for me to win his heart. What do you want me to do now. If he finds out, how do you think he would feel?”

“Then if you don’t want this, you should pack your things and come back. You can do that now before it gets too late, okay?”

“Mama.. How can you tell me to do that? I can’t leave Odeya. I just started working and haven’t even reached to be given half of my salary.” Amanda said.

“Is that the reason why you don’t want to leave or him?”

“Mama! Stop.. I told you I only like him as my boss. There’s no possibility that he would even look at me and right now, he’s not really himself. He might not even want to have anything to do with ladies again.” Amanda said.

“Amanda, if you know you can’t stay, you should come back. He will get another nanny for his daughter.”

“I will be fine. Lady Monica told me to take care of him and Odeya. I want to leave but then I don’t want to. I have no idea how I should take care of him but I want to.”

“You love him Amanda.”

“Yes I do. I love him but I cant have him. We are two different worlds. The plan of me being a nanny to win his heart wasn’t a good idea from you and Lady Monica. If I knew about it, I wouldn’t be here.” Amanda said.
“Yes I know.. I’m sorry daughter.”

“I will call you tomorrow. I’m quite busy and need to go to bed,” Amanda said.

“Okay my daughter. Goodnight.”

The call dropped and Amanda inhaled.

“I will leave once I get my salary. I can hold on until then.” she said.
“Where are you leaving to?”
Desmond’s voice startled Amanda and she turned to see him at the kitchen door.

She was shocked and frightened.
Has he been standing there?

“S s sir…..” she stammered.

Desmond slide his hands in his pants pockets and walked into the kitchen.

“Oh my… I must have heard wrong..right?” he asked as he headed to the fridge.

‘Oh my God.. He heard it all. He’s been standing there all this while. Oh my god.. What do I do now..’

Amanda was shaking with fright and her heart was beating fast.

He opened the fridge and took out two cans of Star Alcohol.

Amanda dropped her phone on the counter to avoid it dropping off her shaking hands.

Desmond turned and walked to her.

Amanda noticed that he wasn’t looking annoyed at all.

He stopped in front of her and raised his right brow. “Yes?”

Amanda swallowed hard.. “A actually s sir…my my.. I mean I.. Had no.. Idea.. I wouldn’t be here if..if I did..” she said with her face down.

Desmond chuckled. “Really. Yes I heard it all. Argh my mom is something else. I can’t believe it.” he said and laughed.

Amanda looked at him.

He’s laughing?

He stretched one of the alcohol to her. “Let’s drink tonight too.”

“S sir?” Amanda mumbled, confused.

“Don’t you feel like drinking?” he asked her.

Amanda shook her head.. “N no sir. I don’t feel like.”

Desmond shrugged and let go of the can..Amanda was fast enough to catch it.

“Come to the table” Desmond said then turned and walked to the breakfast bar, sat down, opened his and began drinking.

Amanda looked at the alcohol can in her hand and exhaled.

‘I’m more scared with his act. Is must have questions for me. He must have heard me confess to my mom that I love him. Oh my god.. What have I gotten myself into.’

She hesitantly walked to the breakfast and sat on two stool away from him.

“Open it and drink” he said to her.

She slowly opened the can and drank a little from it.

“Do you too plan on using charm on me?” he asked and Amanda’s eyes widened.

“Sir? How can.. I mean why would I do such barbaric thing?” she said.

“I don’t trust women anymore.” he said and gulped down from the alcohol.

‘What do I do..’

“But you said you love me.. Didn’t you?” he asked.

Amanda felt like she was on a hot seat and the questions are too tough to answer.

She gulped down all of the alcohol.

Desmond did same.

“Argh alcohols do taste more good when you are in a really bad mood.” he said then stood up and walked to the fridge. He opened it and took out four more cans of alcohol.

Amanda was shaking both inside and outside. She could hear her heart beat pounding.

She was afraid she’d have a heart attack.

He came back and dropped two for himself and two for her. Sitting down back, he opened one and gulped down.

“Continue. It seems you really want to drink tonight.” he said to Amanda.

Amanda took one, opened and drank.

‘Oh my goodness.. I can’t breathe. What do I answer him. Please this should be a dream.’

“You said you love me but you can’t have me. Who told you that?” he said.

Amanda swallowed. “I…I “

He cut her short. “Of course you can have me by..using charm. Are you so lame to know that?”

Amanda choked and began coughing..

She hit her chest to stop it.

Desmond chuckled.. It seem he was already getting drunk.
“You must be surprised. I’m just trying to help you..” he said.

Amanda’s choking stopped and she cleaned her mouth and her teary eyes.

She looked at Desmond and saw he was getting drunk. He had finished the secobd and was on his third can.

‘He must be a light head’ she thought.

She knew that her limit is five cans of that but he has only taken two and got drunk already.

“Sir I think you should go to bed.. You are getting drunk,” she said.

He chuckled. “Me? No way.. I can never get drunk. I’m just in a bad mood. You can go. I will be fine.” he said and gulped down the third. He stretched his hand and collected Amanda’s.

“Sir.. You can’t continue drinking,” Amanda said.

“Why shouldn’t I? It taste good.” he said and while opening the can, he got a cut.

“Ah, this damn thing!” he cursed and Amanda flinched when he threw the can on the wall. The sound was loud that Amanda feared Odeya might wake up by it.
She stood up immediately and rushed to him.

He was about throwing an empty can when Amanda caught his hand.

“Sir.. Please don’t do this…” she said and collected the can from him. She shifted the cans away from him.

“Your finger is bleeding.” she said. “Please stay still sir while I get water.”

She left his hand and rushed to the sink, grabbed a bowl, added water into it. Fortunately, there was s tissue roll beside the dish drainer, she grabbed it and hurried back to him.

His head was on the table but Amanda was glad enough that he haven’t slept.

“Sir.. Please don’t sleep off here.” she said as she took his hand and dipped it into the cold water. She washed off the blood.

‘Geez.. He has so much blood. Only a little cut and there’s this much blood.’

When she took out his hand from the water, the blood was still coming out.. She cut out a tissue and wrapped it around the finger.

“I’ll help you upstairs sir,” She said.

“No, You can’t do that..” Desmond said and stood up from the stool but as he took a step, he staggered back and Amanda quickly caught him.

The image appeared like she was back hugging him.

She released her left hand and held him around the waist with her right hand.

“I will help you sir,” she said.
“Why? Because you love me?” he asked causing Amanda to halt.
She searched for seconds on what to say then got one.

“Because you were about to fall. As my boss, I Can’t let you sleep on the floor of the kitchen.”

He chuckled.

“Oh…oh.. I can’t feel my legs.” he said.

Amanda exhaled.

They finally made it to his room and Amanda dropped him on his bed.

‘Ahh that was a lot of work,’ she breathed out. His eyes were closed and Amanda smiled wondering why she felt butterflies in her stomach.

She looked at his finger and it was still bleeding a little.

“I’m sure Odeya have a first aid.” she said and went out to Odeya’s room.

She found the first aid at the bottom of her closet.

She went back to Desmond’s room and gave the finger a first aid treat which stopped the bleeding after which she bandaged it. Then covered him with the duvet.. Switched off the lights and walked out.

When she returned back to the kitchen to clean up the mess.
She felt really excited.

She kept smiling even though she doesn’t want to.

She was supposed to be in fear of being sacked because he won’t find what his mom and hers did funny but here she was, smiling and recalling the moments when she washed his finger in the water and when she caught him from the back. When she helped him to him room and when she treated his wound.

“Argh he’s such a light head” She said with s wide smile.
