Violet stood at Shawn’s doorstep, her hand hesitating over the door handle. she knew once she stepped inside, there would be no turning back, she felt pained knowing she is giving herself to a monster, somebody she despise the most in this whole wide world, she couldn’t think of hour to escape, she just wish for the ground to open up and swallow her up or her grandmother could just walk in through that door. Her heart sank, and she felt a wave of despair wash over her. She was trapped, with no escape in sight. She thought for a while and idea rushed through her mind, she rushed back to her to change into another clothes.

Shawn, on the other hand, was oblivious to Violet’s turmoil. He was lying on his bed, shirtless, working on his laptop. When someone knocked on the door, he stood up, expecting it to be Violet. He opened the door, and his eyes widened in surprise at Violet’s appearance.

Violet was wearing a tight jeans trousers with a big polo, and her hair looked messy with an excess of funny makeup on her face. Shawn’s expression was one of disgust, and he sighed tiredly at her.

“What are you wearing?” he asked, his voice laced with disdain.

Violet looked up at him, her face bowed. “What I love wearing every night,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Shawn sighed again, his expression unimpressed. “Do you know what you look like right now? You look like a zombie.”

Violet raised her face to him, a fake smile plastered on her face. “Really? So, can I go back to my room now?”

She turned to leave, but Shawn quickly grabbed his shirt and pulled her inside, shutting the door behind her. Violet gulped nervously, knowing that her trick hadn’t worked.

Shawn’s expression was cold, his eyes glinting with amusement. Violet avoided his gaze, her voice trembling. “Please don’t hurt me, I am not ready.”

Shawn’s expression didn’t change, but he pulled away from Violet, his eyes never leaving hers.

Violet’s eyes widened as Shawn spoke, his expression cold and unyielding. “I told you to get yourself prepared,” he said, his voice firm.

Violet’s face contorted in fear, her eyes pleading. “I am not ready, I don’t want to, please give me something else to do and I will do it,” she said, her voice shaking.

Shawn’s expression turned mocking, his eyes glinting with amusement. “You naughty fool, do you really think I will want to have something with you? You are nothing but a slave to me, I will have you when you are willing to give yourself to me,” he said, his voice dripping with disdain.

He moved to the bed, handing her a brown envelope. “Here, this is for you,” he said, his expression indifferent.

Violet took the envelope, her hands shaking. “What’s this?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Shawn shrugged, his expression uninterested. “Why not see for yourself?” he said, leaving her to open the envelope.

Violet’s eyes widened as she pulled out a white paper, her face lighting up with excitement. She glanced through the paper, her eyes scanning the contents. Suddenly, she let out a scream, quickly covering her mouth. “I…I…yes!!!” she exclaimed, jumping up and down.

Shawn scoffed, his expression annoyed. “Please leave my room, you are distracting me,” he said, waving his hand dismissively.

Violet rushed out of his room, excitement radiating from her face. “So ungrateful, she couldn’t say thank you to me for making…” Shawn muttered to himself, but his words were cut off as Violet opened the door.

“Thank you,” she smiled, her eyes sparkling with gratitude, before leaving and shutting the door behind her.

Shawn scoffed, his expression unimpressed, and continued with what he was doing.

Violet’s face lit up with excitement as she shared the good news with the workers. “Congratulations!” they chimed in unison, their faces beaming with smiles.

Violet smiled, her eyes sparkling with gratitude. “Thank you, finally I am free at last,” she said, her voice filled with relief.

But her joy was short-lived, as Shawn appeared from behind, his expression cold and unyielding. “Says who?” he asked, his voice firm.

The staff quickly dispersed, busying themselves with their tasks. Shawn smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement. “You are not free until your grandmother pays me back my money,” he said, his voice dripping with disdain.

Violet’s face fell, her eyes flashing with anger. “Moron, does he have to remind me of my misery?” she muttered under her breath.

Later, during lunch, Violet and Shawn sat at the dining table, eating in silence. Shawn broke the silence, his expression unyielding. “Just so you know, you will be going to school from home, a guard will be assigned to take you to school and bring you back home.”

Violet’s eyes widened in surprise, her face contorted in concern. “How do you expect me to do that, the school is two hours drive from here,” she said, her voice laced with worry.

Shawn shrugged, his expression indifferent. “I don’t care, it’s an order, everything you need has been paid for,” he said, his voice firm.

Violet’s face twisted in anger, her eyes flashing with defiance. “You are still my slave, there is no freedom for you until your debt is paid,” Shawn said, his voice dripping with disdain.

Violet’s face contorted in rage, her eyes blazing with fury. “I am not your slave, don’t you ever call me that again, you and my grandmother made the deal, why am I being used as prey?” she exclaimed, her voice shaking with anger.

Shawn’s expression turned cold, his eyes glinting with amusement. “You are and you will always be, now I see why your family abandoned you, you are a cursed child, stop dreaming your grandmother will come for you, because it will never happen, she sold you to me and you will remain with me,” he said, his voice dripping with malice.

Violet’s face twisted in rage, her eyes blazing with fury. She clenched her fist, her body trembling with anger.

Violet’s face twisted in rage, her eyes blazing with fury. “I hate you, you are a monster!” she exclaimed, her voice shaking with anger.

Shawn’s expression turned cold, his eyes narrowing into slits. “What did you just call me?” he asked, his voice low and menacing.

Violet’s face contorted in defiance, her eyes flashing with anger. “A monster, that’s what you are! Who do you think you are that you will decide my future for me? I am not a cursed child… You are the cursed one, how am I sure your family didn’t abandon you as well, that’s why no one ever comes around to ask of you, you are a loner and that you will be for the rest of your miserable life!” she yelled, her voice echoing through the room.

Shawn’s face turned red with rage, his eyes blazing with fury. He hit the table hard, shaking the whole building. “How dare you!” he exclaimed, his voice thundering through the room.

He stood up, his eyes fixed on Violet, and stared hard into her eyes. “Today, I will show you the monster that I am,” he said, his voice dripping with malice.

He pulled Violet up, flipping her over his shoulder as he headed upstairs. “Let me go!” Violet struggled and hit him, trying to get him to put her down.

The staff from the kitchen rushed out, their faces filled with fear and concern. Shawn entered his bedroom, flipping Violet onto the bed. She flinched in fear, her eyes wide with terror.

“No, please,” she sobbed, her body shaking with fear.

Shawn’s expression turned cold, his eyes glinting with malice. “I am a monster, right?” he said, taking off his shirt.

Violet was shaking in fear, trying to scramble away from him. “No! I am sorry!” she begged, her voice trembling with fear.

Shawn pulled her back, staring hard into her eyes. He started to rip off her clothes, Violet screaming and begging him to stop. But Shawn was filled with anger, his face twisted in rage.

“Please! Don’t!” Violet sobbed, her body shaking with fear.

Shawn grunted angrily, constantly hitting his hand on the pillow. “Get out!” he yelled, his voice thundering through the room.

Violet ran out quickly, tears streaming down her face.

Shawn sat upright on the bed, groaning in anger. He stood up, took his phone, and walked out, his men following closely behind. When they arrived at the car, they got in and sped off.

Some minutes later, Shawn arrived at his clubhouse and made his way to the VIP section. The music was loud, and people were drinking and dancing. A waiter approached him and served his favorite drink.

Just then, a lady interrupted him, wearing a seductive outfit. Shawn raised his face, looking at her with interest, and gestured to the men at the entrance to let her in. She rushed over to him, smiling flirtatiously.

Shawn smirked mischievously, clearly enjoying the attention. The lady started to chat with him, laughing and playing with her hair. Shawn leaned back in his chair, looking relaxed and entertained.

The lady leaned in close, whispering something in Shawn’s ear. He smiled, seeming to enjoy the conversation. The music and laughter continued to fill the air, creating a lively atmosphere.

    ‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡
After settling things with my parents, I updated Faith on my progress.
I also informed my brother, who was annoyed for not knowing earlier.
“Congratulations dear but remember to be careful as you get there….he adviced
“Alright bro….I will”…… I said, taking his advice to heart.
I arrived at school and was assigned to a hostel already occupied by two students from different departments, Blessing and Rachael, who were studying accounting. Their warm welcome surprised me, making me feel instantly at home. They shared valuable insights about the school, lecturers, and student life.
Our friendship blossomed quickly, and I was grateful for their companionship. As a busy student, my course demanded constant reading and studying. I was focused and determined and at the same propagating the kingdom of heaven at every opportunity.
Despite occasional temptations to stray, my parents’ frequent calls, prayers, and reminders kept me grounded. They would often instruct me to fast and pray, citing concerns from dreams they had about me since I left home. I’d reassure them all was well, calming their worries.
People noticed my brilliance and modesty, and I became known for my positive influence. Encouraged, I joined a campus fellowship, just like my brother had done and throughout my first year to third year, I inspired lives through my actions.
However, my success blinded me. I thought I was on fire for God, but I was actually driven by self. My doom was looming and I was unaware.
I thought I had it all figured out, thinking God’s Favour was a blanket of limitless possibility never knew that even in divine love, boundaries exist to refine and protect.
I had totally forgotten to relate my own life to what I preached to others, believing it was meant for others and not for someone as flawless as I thought was. I had considered myself perfect and here I am stuck bin my own despair uncertain of the path forward.
My life took a dark turn when I started receiving unwanted attention from guys on campus. Both responsible and irresponsible individuals approached me for a relationship, which I politely declined. unknown to me that two of these suitors were members of rival cμlt groups.
After a lecture one day, one of them approached me, saying he’d give me time to think about his proposal. He hinted that accepting him would bring me significant benefits and as I tried to brush him off, the other cult member spotted us together witnessing our exchange and that’s when my problems escalated.
A week after the incident, I was alone in the hostel that night, my roommates had told me they would be attending a party of which I tried to dissuade them so as not to be alone, but I wasn’t able to convince them as they assured me nothing is going to happen.
As a serious student, I spent the night reading and around 2am I decided to call it a night packing my books together, I visited the restroom  before going to bed. I was done and trying to clean myself up when I started hearing footsteps, I had thought it was a mere hallucination but I was wrong as I was welcomed with the sight of an unknown person as I opened the door. I froze, unable to look up.

    ~ Genevieve ~

Taking a break at the beginning of the semester wasn’t exactly on my list of expectations when I started at SU, yet here I was, somehow finding myself in this predicament.

It’s not my fault, alright?! I just happen to have this incredibly good-looking boyfriend who I miss terribly. Honestly, it’s quite ridiculous how much I miss him.

So, yes, I hopped onto one of the King’s private jets and flew all the way to Moscow, Russia. It’s December, and I knew it would be cold, but I didn’t quite anticipate just how cold it would be.

As soon as I stepped off the jet, I was met with a blast of frigid air that felt like a slap in the face. Snow was falling, and everywhere I looked, everyone was bundled up in their heaviest coats.

I was clad only in Dominic’s hoodie—which has now become mine—over an oversized shirt, teamed with a pair of midnight-black boots. A shiver coursed through me, and I trembled like a fish out of water.

And here comes the amusing part: the moment I shivered, one of the two men Dominic had assigned to ‘ensure my safety’ draped a coat over my shoulders. I smiled gratefully at him, but his lips didn’t so much as twitch in response.

Utterly rude, if you ask me.

That’s why I’m not a fan of being overly nice.

The other one offered me a water flask, his deep Russian accent resonating in a way that made it sound almost alien. “Here, it’s tea. I made it, so.”

Ew, I’m not a fan of tea.

I forced a polite smile and took it from him, muttering a reluctant, “thank you.”

Soon enough, a sleek black SUV pulled up, and the one who clearly had no interest in smiling quickly opened the door for me before I could even think of blinking—yes, I’m exaggerating, but it felt that way.

As the car cruised through the streets of Russia, I indulged in one of my audiobooks while watching the snowy scenery glide by. The streets were blanketed in white, and my word, it was stunning.

    ••

“He gave me tea,” I exclaimed in a playful, exasperated tone as I recounted the incident to my boyfriend, who was listening with an amused smile, as if I weren’t busy rambling on. “I hate tea.”

“You can’t blame him. Which Brit would hate tea? It’s practically in your blood,” Dominic replied, gazing up at me.

I noticed he looked quite worn out, so instead of him embracing me like he usually would, I decided to let him be the one needing comfort today. He rested his head on my lap while I ran my fingers through his tousled hair, massaging his scalp in a way that made his eyelids flutter shut.

“Well, it’s not in mine. I don’t understand the fuss about it.” I rolled my eyes as though the offending tea were right in front of me. “Adrianna loves it, though.” I cringed, “ugh.”

    “She’s British.”

    “And so am I.”

“Really? The only thing that makes you British is your accent, and lots of people fake that rubbish all the time.”

“Are you lot, then, Dominic?” A cheeky smirk crossed his face as he shook his head, not uttering a word. “What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue, darling?”

“No, not yet, but I’d much prefer a vixen instead.” Dominic winked, and a hearty laugh escaped me.

“Your flirting skills are absolutely dreàdful,” I fibbed.

“Oh?” His voice took on a competitive tone, as though he was challenging me to repeat myself. “Should I flirt with you?” he asked, a wicked smirk playing on his lips.

    “No.”

    Yes.

That smirk remained as he lifted his head from my lap, and without giving me a moment to react, he flipped me onto my back and hovered above me. My heart raced, pounding against my ribcage as I stared up at him, startled and slightly exhilarated.

“Why do you say no when your eyes are saying otherwise?” Dominic’s hands settled on my waist, slipping beneath the hoodie I was wearing, making me squirm in his hold. “I reckon it must be quite nerve-wracking for you. Fancy letting off some steam?” He winked suggestively, his tone flirtatious.

My interest piqued, I raised my brows, eager to see where this was heading. I remained beneath him, playing the part of a good girl—though I certainly wasn’t one, I could be when I wanted to—anticipating his next move with impatience.

I soon regretted my eagerness when his fingers began to tickle my sides, causing my body to shoot up in a vain attempt to escape, but his larger frame effortlessly pinned me to the sofa.

Laughter erupted from me as he continued his relentless assault on my belly, tickling me until I could hardly breathe. Tears stung my eyes from the sheer joy of it, my legs flailing in the air.

“Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop,” I pleaded, gasping for air. “Please, please, stop.”

    For heaven’s sake, I can’t breathe!

Through my blurred vision, I caught sight of the bright smile stretching across Dominic’s face, as if he were relishing the sight of me gasping for oxygen.

    “Why?”

    Why indeed?!

    “I c-can’t… I can’t b-b-b-breathe.”

    “Why?”

Oh, I’ll have my revenge when I manage to escape this.

“Because you’re stealing my breath away,” I blurted out.

He grinned wickedly. “Should I steal it another way?”

His grin widened, a playful glint in his eyes as he leaned closer, his breath warm against my skin. The teasing banter faded into the background, replaced by an electric tension that crackled between us. My heart raced, pounding in sync with the mounting anticipation.

Dominic’s gaze locked onto mine, and in that moment, everything around us disappeared. The laughter, the tickling, the chilly air of Moscow—it all faded away to leave just the two of us, suspended in time. Slowly, he lowered his lips to mine, and I felt the world shift beneath us.

The kiss began softly, a gentle exploration, as if he was testing the waters. His lips brushed against mine with a tenderness that sent shivers down my spine. I savoured the taste of him, a mix of warmth and something uniquely Dominic. My heart swelled with an overwhelming sense of love and longing, and I instinctively leaned into him, craving more.

As the kiss deepened, the initial softness transformed into something much more intense. He pulled me closer, his hands cradling my face, thumbs caressing my cheeks, as if he were trying to absorb every detail of this moment. I could feel the heat radiating off him, igniting a fire within me that I hadn’t realised I was missing.

I responded in kind, my hands finding their way to his hair, fingers tangling in the tousled strands as I pulled him even closer. It was as if we were the only two people in the universe, lost in our own world where nothing else mattered.

Every brush of his lips against mine was a silent promise, a declaration of our need for each other. I could feel the urgency in his movements, the way he kissed me as if he feared this moment might slip away. And God, I felt the same. I wanted to hold onto this, to etch it into my memory forever.

The kiss was slow and sensual, a dance of passion that spoke volumes without a single word. I savoured each heartbeat, every lingering touch, as if we were trying to capture time itself. My body melted against him, yearning for more, wanting to lose myself in the depths of his affection.

When we finally pulled apart, our foreheads resting against one another, I could see the heat in his eyes mirrored in my own. The world around us rushed back in, but it didn’t matter. We were still cocooned in our own little bubble, and in that moment, I knew that whatever happened next, this kiss would linger in my heart, a sweet reminder of our love and the undeniable connection we shared.

                                             ✧✧✧✧

The next morning, I woke up expecting to feel Dominic’s warmth beside me, but the bed was empty, the sheets on his side cool to the touch. A faint ray of light streamed through the curtains, and as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, I noticed a post-it note stuck to the nightstand.

With bleary eyes and a groggy mind, I reached for it, the slight crinkle of the paper breaking the morning stillness. The handwriting was unmistakably his—bold yet elegant.

It read: 𝑯𝒆𝒚, 𝒎𝒚 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆. 𝑮𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒉𝒐𝒑𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒂 𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒔𝒍𝒆𝒆𝒑. 𝑰’𝒅 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒅𝒂𝒚, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒅𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒔. 𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒔𝒐 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉.

I sighed, the disappointment settling like a weight on my chest. I’d come all this way to spend time with Dominic, only for him to be swept away by his endless responsibilities. I knew I should be understanding—I really did—but it was hard not to feel frustrated.

All I wanted was a day with my boyfriend. Just one day. Was that too much to ask?

Groaning, I flopped back onto the bed, the mattress sinking slightly beneath me. A deep yawn escaped my lips, and I rubbed my face with both hands, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep. Finally, I dragged myself upright and shuffled to the bathroom.

The tiles were cold beneath my feet, sending a small shiver up my spine. I spotted a new toothbrush resting neatly by the sink. Dominic always thought of everything. As I brushed my teeth, the minty freshness perked me up just a little.

The shower was a refuge—warm water cascading over my skin, the steam wrapping around me like a comforting hug. I stayed under the spray longer than I should have, letting the steady rhythm of water drown out my thoughts. With nowhere to be and nothing to do, time felt meaningless.

Once out, I towelled off and slipped into one of Dominic’s oversized hoodies. The fabric was soft, and his scent lingered faintly on it—an intoxicating mix of cedarwood and something distinctly him. Cosy and cocooned, I wandered to the kitchen, the wooden floor creaking faintly underfoot.

When I opened the fridge for a glass of water, my eyes immediately caught another post-it note stuck to the door. My initial frown melted into a soft smile, my cheeks warming as I read it.

It said: 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒐𝒏, 𝒑𝒖𝒕 𝒂 𝒔𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔. 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒘𝒆 𝒅𝒐 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒖𝒏 𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕? 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒌, 𝒂𝒍𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕? 𝑹𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓, 𝑰 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖

I chuckled under my breath, my fingers grazing the edge of the note as if it were something precious. Months ago, before we were even a couple, I’d offhandedly mentioned in Dominic’s office that I’d always dreamed of receiving handwritten notes from my significant other. Clearly, he’d taken it to heart.

Dominic had confessed his feelings for me in a letter—one I still kept tucked safely away—and now here he was, adding another to the collection. Every little thing he did for me only deepened the feelings I had for him.

Was it strange to love someone this much? Sometimes it felt almost overwhelming, as though my love for him was too intense, too consuming. It scaréd me, the thought that such passion might lead to heartbreak. But no, I was overthinking. Dominic wouldn’t húrt me. He couldn’t.

He loved me, I reminded myself. And his love wasn’t ordinary. It was fierce, possessive, almost obséssive. Some might find it alarming, but I found it endearing.

    Yes, I probably needed help.

Dominic lived in two worlds—the ruthléss màfia underworld and the polished business elite. In both, he was a dévil. I’d heard stories about his ruthléssness, his merciléss approach to those who crossed him. Even in the corporate world, where he wore the mask of a gentleman, his wrath was something to be fearéd.

I should have run the first time I realised something was off about him. I should have bolted when he shót a man right in front of me, or when he beàt someone senseléss for touching me, or when he nearly killéd a man who held a kñife to my throat. Any sensible person would have been terrifiéd, but not me.

    But I didn’t.

Instead, I stayed. Perhaps I was drawn to the chàos, to the dañger. I wanted to see and know the thrill in knowing that this man, so untouchable and unyielding, was utterly undone by me. And I did. Except, somewhere along the way, my goal shifted, and now we’re here—madly in love.

And now, here I was—madly, irreversibly in love with a man who was capable of unspeakable viólence. And yet, the thought of living without him feels impossible.

There’s a knock at the door, interrupting my thoughts. I get up to answer it. It’s room service—Dominic and I are staying at a hotel rather than his uncle’s house.

I’d meant to ask him yesterday why we weren’t at his place, but I’d been too preoccupied with hugging and cuddling him to remember.

I thank the waiter, take the tray, and close the door. Just as I sit down to eat, there’s another knock at the door.

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm pastries wafted into the room as I accepted the tray from the waiter. I thanked him and closed the door, eager to dig in. Barely had I sat down when another knock came at the door.

I rolled my eyes, irritation bubbling to the surface. Who could it be now? Rising from the sofa, I strode to the door and swung it open.

Standing there, looking as imposing as ever, was the last person I expected to see. Ivan Morozov.

The last time I’d seen Dominic’s uncle, he’d been lying in bed with a broken ankle, watching me with a calculating gaze. Now, fully healed and towering over me, that gaze hadn’t softened one bit.

He looked me up and down as if assessing whether I had any right to be here. Not one to back down, I met his stare head-on, then broke into a wide, deliberately cheerful grin.

“Good morning,” I said brightly, as though I were thrilled to see him.

“Morning,” he replied curtly, his thick Russian accent making the word sound almost begrudging. “Where is Dominic?”

“At work,” I said, tilting my head. “Shouldn’t you have called or texted before dropping by?”

    “I wanted to surprise him.”

    “Dominic doesn’t like surprises.”

“He’s my son; I know what he likes.”

“I thought he was your nephew.”

    “I don’t see the difference.”

    “Well, I do.”

“You enjoy having the last word, don’t you? I can see why he’s so taken with you.”

Not sure how to respond, I settled on a cautious, “Thanks?”

A faint smile ghosted across his lips before he surprised me with an unexpected question. “Do you play golf?”

    “Yes. Why?”

    “Let’s play golf together.”

    Now?

I raised an eyebrow. “That’s no way to ask a lady out.”

Ivan smirked, stepping forward. His attempt to intimidate me fell flat, and he chuckled instead, his eyes gleaming with amusement. “Fancy a round of golf?” He hesitated, reading my expression, then added reluctantly, “Please?”

        ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

As the years passed, Violet’s patience grew, and she held onto the hope that her grandmother would one day return to her. She rarely saw or spoke to Shawn, as he was always away on business meetings, sometimes for weeks or even months at a time.

Despite his absence, Shawn ensured that Violet was well taken care of. He instructed the household staff to cater to her every need, and Violet was given everything she desired. Shawn also employed a private tutor to educate Violet at home, until she was old enough to attend a higher institution. However, her freedom was severely limited. Shawn employed additional security guards to prevent her from escaping, and she was not allowed to leave the compound.

Violet’s days were spent in isolation, with no friends to play with, except for the household staff who attended to her needs. Guards followed her everywhere, even to the garden, which was her favorite place in the house. The garden was a tranquil oasis, filled with vibrant flowers that Violet lovingly watered every day.

The gardener had initially tried to stop Violet from watering the flowers, fearing that Shawn would be angry. However, Violet had refused to listen, and Shawn had eventually instructed the gardener to let her do as she pleased.

As Violet tended to the flowers, her expression was a mix of sadness and determination. Her eyes, once bright and full of life, had dimmed with the passing years. However, her love for the flowers and her determination to hold onto hope kept her going.

Shawn, on the other hand, was a mystery. His expression was always cold and calculating, his eyes gleaming with a sinister intent. Despite his absence, his presence was felt throughout the house, and Violet knew that she was never truly alone.

As the clock ticked away, Violet squeezed herself into a ball on her bed, knowing that she would be turning eighteen tomorrow. She had given up hope of her grandmother returning, and the thought filled her with despair. She sobbed throughout the night, wishing for a miracle to happen.

Shawn, who was staying in a nearby room, emerged into the hallway and stopped by Violet’s doorstep. He listened to her sobs, his expression unreadable. He had grown accustomed to her tears every night and knew that she would be better by the next day.

“Grandma, please come back,” Violet sobbed, her voice barely audible.

    .

    .

    .

    .

The next morning, Violet emerged from her room, looking fresh and determined. She made her way to the dining table, where a mouth-watering breakfast was laid out. Shawn was absent, but his presence was felt throughout the room.

As Violet sat down to eat, the staff members approached her, holding various presents. “Happy birthday, Miss Sofia,” they chimed in unison, their faces beaming with smiles.

Violet’s expression turned stern as she corrected them. “Thank you, but my name is Violet.”

Just as she finished speaking, Shawn interrupted from the staircase, his voice firm and authoritative. “Says who?” he asked, his eyes narrowing as he descended the stairs.

The staff members quickly lost their smiles and bowed their heads, sensing the tension in the air. Shawn moved closer to Violet, his face inches from hers. Violet gulped nervously and pushed back, trying to create some distance between them.

“Your name is Sofia,” Shawn said, his voice cold and unyielding. “Get used to it.”

With that, he sat down, his eyes never leaving Violet’s face. He ordered the staff members to drop the presents and return to their duties. They quickly complied, leaving Violet alone with Shawn.

Violet’s eyes widened as she gazed at the presents on the table. “Who’s gifts are these?” she asked, her voice laced with curiosity.

Shawn smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement. “They are yours, dummy. It’s your eighteenth birthday today, am I right?” He took a sip from his coffee, his expression condescending.

Violet’s face fell, and she gulped nervously. “I don’t want them,” she said, her voice firm.

Shawn scoffed, his expression dismissive. “That’s your biz!” He waved his hand, his eyes never leaving Violet’s face. Violet’s eyes flashed with defiance, but Shawn’s next words made her heart sink. “It seems your grandmother is never coming back. Our deal has extended to its limits, which means you are all mine now.” He smirked, his eyes glinting with triumph.

Violet’s face twisted in determination. “Never! I will never be yours. My grandma will come for me and take me out of here.” She stood up, her eyes blazing with defiance.

Shawn scoffed, his expression mocking. “Keep wishing yourself that.” He leaned back in his chair, his eyes never leaving Violet’s face.

Violet’s face fell, but she stood her ground. “I know it,” she said, her voice firm. “I know of it.”

Shawn raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. Violet turned to leave, but Shawn’s voice stopped her. “And where are you going?”

Violet turned back, her eyes flashing with defiance. “My room.”

Shawn’s expression turned cold, his eyes glinting with anger. “Don’t you dare move an inch. You haven’t eaten your food.”

Violet’s face fell, and she took two steps back before Shawn’s hand grabbed her and pulled her back to the table. She flinched in fear, her eyes wide with terror.

Shawn’s eyes pierced hers, his expression cold and unyielding. “When I am talking to you, you don’t walk out on me.”

Violet’s face crumpled, and she turned away, tears streaming down her face. “I’m sorry…I promise not to disobey you again,” she stammered, her voice shaking.

Shawn stared at her, his expression unyielding. Then, he pushed her back and said, “Now, sit down and eat.”

Violet sniffed and sat down, her eyes fixed on the food in front of her. “I lost my appetite,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Shawn stared at her, his expression unyielding. “I don’t care,” he said, his voice firm.

Violet sniffed and sat down, her eyes fixed on the food in front of her. She started eating, her movements mechanical, as Shawn watched her with an unyielding gaze.

Violet stood at the window of her room, gazing up at the stars twinkling in the night sky. Her mind was preoccupied with the words Shawn had spoken earlier: “Just so you know, get prepared for tonight.” She shook off the feeling of unease, wondering what he had meant.

As she stepped out of her room, she made her way to the kitchen, where the staff were tidying up. “Um, hey,” she said, and they turned to her.

One of the staff asked politely, “Is there something you need, Miss Sofia?”

Violet hesitated, her eyes scanning the faces of the staff. “Um… not really, I just need you guys to help me verify something.” She took a deep breath and asked, “What does it mean when someone says, ‘Get prepared for tonight’?”

The staff exchanged confused glances. “Who said that to you? Was it the boss?” one of them asked. Violet nodded, and the staff looked at each other nervously.

One of them suggested, “Maybe he’s planning on taking you out to celebrate your birthday.”

Violet shook her head, her eyes wide with fear. “It’s past 11 pm, I don’t think so.”

The staff fell silent, thinking for a moment. Then, one of them gasped, “I know it!” The others nodded in agreement, their faces somber.

The staff nodded sadly, their faces filled with pity. “We are sorry to break this to you, it’s not something you might wanna do,” one of them said.

“What, tell me,” Violet asked curiously, and one of them whispered in her ear.

Violet let out a gasp and covered her mouth, her eyes wide with horror. The staff nodded sadly, their faces filled with pity. “I guess it’s time,” one of them said.

Violet shook her head, her voice barely above a whisper. “No, not with him.”

Just then, a guard appeared at the doorway, bowing low. “The boss requests your presence in his room,” he said, his voice firm.

Fear overwhelmed Violet, and she felt a chill run down her spine. The staff stared at her sadly, knowing that there was no escape.

    Nonye – Episode 1

    ‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡
Today, Sunday, the Lord’s Day, I stood at the altar, leading praise and worship. I’d wanted to dodge the task, but our choir mistress had seen right through me. With no valid excuse, I accepted my fate, my mind wandered to the depression I’ve been feeling lately. The weight of my emotions became unbearable and I couldn’t resist the thought going through my mind.
“If only suicide were permitted by God, I would have found freedom by now, and since murder is also a criminal offence, I’m trapped in suffering, If God answers prayer quickly as people claim, I would have escape this miserable life. A life unappreciated shouldn’t be lived nor a life filled with bondage, grief and sorrow.”
“Praise the Lord, church,’ I began. ‘If you’re happy to be in God’s presence, wave your hands in appreciation”  My mind, however, was elsewhere consumed by dark thoughts of escape, murder, or sù¡cide. A gentle tap from a backup singer snapped me back to reality.
Frozen, I dropped the microphone and rushed to the church toilet, overwhelmed. Tears flowed freely as I whispered, ‘God, help me, the weight is too much”. A knock on the door broke the silence.
‘Nonye”, are you okay?’ Faith asked, concern etched in her voice. I hesitated, unsure how to respond.”
I washed my face and returned to church with Faith, who persisted in asking what was wrong.
“Nonye, your face says otherwise,’ she said. I reassured her I was fine, and we entered the church.
As I scanned through the congregation what I’ve been avoiding came happening, our eyes met, and I felt an unexplainable rush of emotions. I managed to compose myself for the rest of the service. After the benediction, I sought a quick escape to avoid questions.
“Chinonye, our choir mistress called me. Aside my parents who calls me by my full name, she is the only one who calls me that way in church. Others address me as “Nonye”. according to her she believed calling the name in full makes it more meaningful and understandable, meanwhile, the name is  being interpreted “God be with me”.
‘Yes, ma, good afternoon,’ I replied, forcing a smile.
‘What happened this morning was unexpected. You’ve been acting strangely…are you okay?’ she asked, her concern turning stern. ‘I hope all is well’ she continued. I considered opening up but hesitated.
” Not at all ma, just feeling feverish, ma”. I said.
“Sorry dear, hope you’ve tried taking drugs, by the way, your parents didn’t attend today’s service which is unusual of them, is everything all right? she asked
“All is well ma, they attended a family gathering,’ I explained.
“Oh! alright then, do takecare of yourself and remember who you are. OK?” she advice’s
    “Yes ma”…I replied
“Trust you my dear….she said and that last part brought back my thought.
“hope I don’t get to disappoint this woman”. I turned to leave and on getting home, there I met him standing by the gate.

    Zoe’s POV

I watched as Adrian walked out the house. I was scared. Why did he leave so fast? Was it because of the cold water?

I guess men like Adrian were very rich and weren’t used to this lifestyle. I was sure he was disgusted by this. By the poverty and state of my house.

“Ughhh.” I groaned and sat down. I was still wrapped in the towel.

I moved to my dresser and picked out something simple. Some shorts and a black top. I put on the clothes and looked at my messy hair. I brushed through it and tied it back. It was still wet, but that didn’t matter.

I moved back to my bed and laid down, I was about to close my eyes and sleep some more, when I heard a knock on my bedroom door.

Then, I saw my little sister’s head poke out the door.

“Penelope. Why are you still awake? I told you guys to go bed.” I said.

    Penelope pouted and walked in.

“I know. But I can’t sleep. Also Victoria snores too loud! She sounds like a bulldozer! Can I sleep here tonight? Pleaaaasssseeee! I don’t wanna sleep next to her anymore. Her snoring is too loud. I can’t hear my dreams!” Penelope cried.

I laughed. She was right tho. Victoria had always been a heavy snorer.

I scooted over and patted the bed.

Penelope smiled and came in, closing the door. She ran over and jumped onto the bed, crawling next to me.

We laid down, and I covered her up with the blanket.

“What of the man that came with you? I heard him leave the house. Why did he leave? Is it because of what I said. I didn’t mean anything bad.” Penelope said to me. Her little innocent eyes staring up at me.

“No.” I said and hugged her. “Don’t blame yourself for anything. He just left because…he…” I sighed. I didn’t know what else to say. I didn’t know why he left.

Did he feel that way? That we were too poor. That we were nothing.

Maybe he was just embarrassed about the state of the apartment. That would explain the way he looked before he left.

“He’s really handsome though.” Penelope chuckled. “He looks so much better than all the other boys in my school. I thought they were pretty, but the man is like, a hundred times better than them. He has really pretty blue eyes. I like him. And he is taller than you too. Hahahaha.”

    Penelope giggled, but then stopped.

“You should marry him.” Penelope said.

    My eyes went wide.

    “Penelope!” I yelled.

She just giggled and hugged me.

“When did you start liking boys huh? I remember when you said that boys were ugly, and that you would never marry. What happened to that huh? Hmmm? You think my little sister is growing up on me? You trying to run away now and marry a boy huh? Hmmm. Should I be worried. Who do you like huh? Hmmmmm.” I asked as I ticked her.

    She started to giggle.

“Ahhhhhh stop! I can’t breathe. Stop Zoe. Pleaseee.” She squealed.

I kept ticking her until she cried.

I finally let go, and she laid there panting.

“But I’m not lying. The man is really handsome. But…you can have him. I don’t want him. You can have him. I don’t need him. He is all yours.” Penelope said, smiling.

“Thank you so much, little sis. Thank you.” I said sarcastically.

“You are welcome. Anytime.” She smiled.

    I rolled my eyes.

    Then Penelope spoke.

“Zoe. Thank you for being my sister. I know that it’s hard for you. After mum got sick and dad left. You’ve always worked hard. To keep us together. I love you so much, sis. You are the best sister ever. You are like my second mum. But don’t tell Victoria. Or she will get mad. Hahahaha.” She smiled at me.

I was taken back. I stared at her. Her little face smiling at me.

I pulled her into a hug and started crying. I loved my sisters so much and I would do everything for them. I know it’s been hard, but we were surviving. We had each other.

“I love you, Zoe.” Penelope whispered.

“I love you too, my sweet little sister.” I whispered back.

I kissed her forehead and her cheeks. “Go to bed, now. Okay.”

    Penelope nodded and laid down.

I hugged her close, and we slept.

    *******************************************

I don’t know how long I slept, but I woke up when I heard a sound.

Someone was knocking on the door continuously.  I opened my eyes and yawned.

“Who’s knocking? It’s 6am in the morning. Who can it be.” I murmured to myself.

“Ughhh. Can’t I get enough sleep.” I groaned.

I untangled myself from Penelope and walked to the door.

I rubbed my eyes and yawned once again.

When I got to the door, the knocking was still going.

“Stop knocking on the door so loud. My head is about to explode. Stop knocking and I will open the door. Okay. Now stop knocking. You are waking everyone up. Stop knocking. Okay. I’m opening the door. I said, STOP KNOCKING. NOW!” I yelled.

    “I SAID STOP KNO-“

When I opened the door, my mouth went slack.

It was Adrian. He had changed into a simple white T-shirt and jeans. His eyes were bloodshot red, and he was panting.

“Adrian! W-What are you doing here. What happened? Are you okay?” I asked, scared.

He was acting really weird. Adrian walked into the house.

“Adrian? Are you okay?” I asked as I followed after him.

“You look like you haven’t gotten any sleep. What’s wrong?” I asked again.

“Pack your bags.” Adrian said. “You and your sisters are leaving this place. I bought you a new house. It’s not far from where I live. You can move in today. Pack your things and we will go.” He said.

I froze. My mouth was wide open.

Did he just say that we were moving? And that he got us a new house?

“W-What did you say? I-I don’t understand. What do you mean we are leaving? I don’t understand, Adrian. Explain to me.” I asked.

Adrian didn’t respond, instead he handed me two set of keys.

“One is for the house and the other is for the new car I bought. You will see it when we get to the house. It’s a 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS. All black. You will love it. Your sisters will love it too. Now, pack your things. We are leaving.” He said.

“A-A-A-Adrian. This is too much. We can’t take this. It’s too much….. You don’t have to do this.” I stammered.

I was shocked. Everything was happening so fast. I wasn’t expecting this.

“Please. I need you and your sisters to move in. Today. I can’t let you live like this.” He said and moved closer to me.

“Don’t you get it? You’re the woman I love. The woman I want to marry. I won’t let you keep living here in this state. Please. Just come with me. I can take care of you. I can give you anything you want. Just say yes. And I will make everything better. I promise.” He said.

“B-But…” I was about to protest when Adrian spoke again.

“No buts. Just say yes. Let me make everything better. Don’t let the kids suffer anymore. If not for you, then do it for the kids. For your sisters. They deserve better than this. So, please. Don’t make this harder. Let’s get them out of here. Okay.” He begged.

I was shocked. Adrian had changed so much. He was no longer the cold hearted man who only cared about himself.

    “Okay.” I whispered.

I felt a tear roll down my cheek.

“Thank you, Adrian.” I whispered again.

    Adrian cupped my face.

“Don’t thank me. I love you, Zoe.”

Then he kissed me. When our lips met, I was filled with so much warmth. I couldn’t help but pull him closer.

I knew what we had was special. I felt it in my heart.

“Ewwwww! Why are you guys kissing. Stop! Gross.”

Adrian and I broke apart and looked around.

Victoria was standing by the door, her arms crossed and her lips pursed.

    I blushed.

“Victoria. What are you doing up? Go back to bed.” I said.

“No. I’m not sleeping until I get a proper explanation. First, you bring this man into the house, and then he leaves. Now he’s back, and you are kissing. And on top of that, we are moving.” She said and took a step closer.

“Penelope might be a child but I’m older. I’m . But not me. I demand an explanation. Why is this man in the house. Who is he? Where did he come from. Is he your boyfriend. Why did he leave last night and now he is back. What happened. Is he the reason why we are moving. Is he rich?  Are we going to his house?” She blurted out a lot of questions.

Adrian and I were speechless. What the hell was happening?

“Victoria, that’s enough.” I said and put my hands on my waist.

“Oh, please. You didn’t answer any of my questions. Just tell me what is happening.” She said and rolled her eyes.

Adrian smiled at me and turned to Victoria.

He stretched his hand to her and spoke.

“Hello, Victoria. My name is Adrian. And I’m your sister’s boyfriend. I really love her and she loves me. But the reason we are moving, is because I can’t stand seeing her in this state. I am taking you and your sisters to a better home. It’s not far from where I live. A beautiful and large house. You can pick the rooms you want.” He said.

Then he took a step closer and bent down to her level.

“And to answer your last question, yes, I’m rich. Very, very, rich. Your sister, is my woman. And as her man, it is my duty to take care of her. You, your sisters and her. And your mother also.  So, don’t worry. You won’t live like this anymore. I promise. I will also pay your mother’s hospital bills and move her to the best hospital. She will be treated by the best doctors. Now, will you come with me?”

He held out his hand and waited.

Victoria stood there, looking at Adrian.

I didn’t know what she was thinking, but after a while, she sighed and grabbed Adrian’s hand.

    “Yes. Thank you.” She said.

Adrian pulled her close and hugged her.

I smiled at the sight. This is exactly what I needed. For the people I love, to accept Adrian.

Victoria hugged him back. After a while, she let go.

“Thank you, Mr. Adrian.” She said and looked up at him.

“Don’t thank me. We are family now. Right, Zoe.” Adrian turned to me and smiled.

    “Yes. That’s right.” I said.

“Now, pack your things. We need to go.” Adrian said.

Victoria nodded and ran to my room screaming.

“Penelope! Wake up! Wake up! We are moving to a new house! Zoe’s boyfriend bought us a house! Penelope! Come out! Wake up! We are not going to stay in this dump anymore! Penelope! Come and help me pack our things. Penelope! Hurry up and wake up!” Victoria screamed.

I laughed. She was so happy.

“So, how did I do?” Adrian asked.

I looked at him and smiled. Tears were running down my cheeks.

“You did great, baby.” I whispered.

    “Good.” Adrian smirked.

    I laughed.

Adrian pulled me close and kissed me again.

We broke apart and he stared into my eyes.

    “I love you.” He whispered.

“I love you more.” I smiled.

    *****************************************

I watched as Victoria and Penelope got in the car.

We had packed everything we had.

All the clothes, shoes and things in the house.

Adrian had paid the landlord the money we owed and told her we were leaving.

It was sad to leave the place, but the happiness of moving into a better house overpowered the sadness.

I couldn’t wait to get there. It was going to be so much better.

“Get in.” Adrian said as he closed the trunk of the car.

    I turned to him.

“Thank you, Adrian. This means a lot to me. You have no idea how happy I am right now. Thank you so much. For everything.” I smiled.

    Adrian cupped my face.

“Anything for my lady.” He whispered and opened the door.

I got into the front seat while my sisters sat in the back.

When he got into the car, he started the engine and drove off.

I smiled as I watched looked out the window.

    Life was finally getting better.

    For all of us.

    ***********************************

The car finally came to a stop.

I had slept for the entire journey.

My sisters were fast asleep in the back.

    “We’re here.” Adrian said.

I yawned and sat up. I rubbed my eyes and looked out the window.

Then, my eyes went wide. I gasped. I couldn’t believe it.

It was a beautiful white mansion. The gate was made of gold and there was a fountain outside.

It was a very large and beautiful house.

“Adrian. It’s…beautiful.” I said, tears rolling down my cheeks.

“Let’s go inside. You can rest, and then we will tour the house. You haven’t gotten enough sleep yet. ” He said and got out the car.

He opened the door for me and I got out.

    My sisters were already awake.

“Oh my God. It’s so beautiful.” Victoria squealed.

    “Wow.” Penelope said.

    I laughed.

    “Let’s go in.” Adrian said.

Adrian grabbed my hand and held onto the kids. We walked towards the front door.

    Then, a maid appeared.

    “Welcome Mr. Adrian.” She greeted.

“Show the kids to their rooms and get them breakfast.” He ordered.

    “Yes, Sir.” She said.

“Girls, this is Rose. She is your nanny. You can ask her anything you want. She will show you around the house. Go with her.” He said.

    They girls nodded.

Rose led the girls into the house.

I was still staring at the house. It was so big. I’ve never seen anything like it. The inside was lavishly decorated with beautiful paintings.

“Come. I will show you the bedroom. You can sleep first.” Adrian said and grabbed my hand.

He was about to lead me up the staircase when a woman barged in.

    I was startled.

I turned back to see a tall blonde woman. She was very beautiful. Her facial features were sharp and she was very fit.

She had huge boobs. Her body was like a model’s.

She looked very familiar. Like I had seen her before.

    Then I remembered.

Alice, the lady I saw in Adrian’s house when I was still doing lessons with him.

She looked very angry. Mad even.

She walked up to Adrian tried to slap him but he grabbed her hand.

“Alice. Why are you here? What are you doing here? How did you get in?” He asked.

“You know why I’m here, Adrian. You can’t just call off the f+cking wedding. Our fathers had an arrangement. And I love you Adrian. I love you.”

Then she fell to her knees in tears. “Please Adrian.” She begged shamelessly.

“Please marry me. I love you. You don’t know how long I have waited for this. I’ve always loved you. Please.” She begged.

    I stood there watching everything.

Adrian just stood there, not saying anything.

Was this the woman he was engaged to?

    Oh My God!

    It was her.

    MASTER’S POV

“We are soaking wet.” I said to Zoe as I pulled away from the kiss.

We have been under the rain, talking, arguing and kissing.

Having Zoe in my arms was like nothing else. The way she fit perfectly. Her lips were soft. I wanted to taste her skin and feel her naked body. She was wearing a dress and I knew how easy it would be to undress her and make love to her right there.

The rain made the temperature cooler. We were both breathing heavily.

I stared into her eyes. I wanted her so badly but we were standing in the middle of a street, under the rain.

She was shivering and I pulled her close, embracing her. I kissed the top of her head.

It would be so easy to let the night go further, but not here. Not under the rain, like this. I wanted her and her alone. Not a quick f+ck in the dark, with the cold rain falling on us. She deserved more than that.

“My car is parked around the corner. Let me take you home.” I told her.

Zone nodded. “Okay. Though, I wanted to go to the hospital first.”

“The hospital?” I asked as I led her to my car.

I opened the passenger door for her and she climbed in.

I was getting drenched. I took off my jacket and threw it in the back seat before I got in.

“Why are you going to the hospital, Zoe? Is everything alright with you?” I asked and turned the engine on.

The car radio blasted some song and I lowered the volume.

She smiled and reached out to touch my hand.

I turned to her and returned the smile.

There was something about her smile that was contagious. I couldn’t help but smile when she smiled at me.

Zoe was a ray of sunshine to me. She was like the sun itself, bright and beautiful. I was so in love.

“My mum is in the hospital.” She said and lowered her eyes.

I didn’t know what to say. I wasn’t prepared to hear this. My heart sunk at the news.

She was going through so much and I didn’t even know. I felt selfish and stupid. How could I not see this before?

“What’s wrong with your mum, Zoe? Is there anything I can do to help?” I asked as  I leaned closer to her.

“She..She…” Zoey began to tear up. Her eyes became misty and she started crying.

I reached out and cupped her cheeks.

    “What’s wrong Zoe?” I asked.

    “Everything.” She replied.

“Everything has been so overwhelming. My mum had an accident few years ago. She suffered from traumatic brain injury and was in coma for years. Then she woke up, which was good news, until the doctor told me, she may never remember who I am.” She sniffed.

“The night of the bachelor party, she suffered a heart attack. It was a miracle that she survived. That’s why I’m doing this Adrian. That’s why I’m working my ass off. To pay off the never ending hospital debts and also care for my siblings.” She said.

“I’m so sorry, Zoe. I didn’t know. You didn’t tell me.” I stroked her hair.

“Well, all we do is argue and yell at each other.” She said.

“And have s-x. Don’t leave that part out. Because, I really enjoy fucking you senseless, Zoe. In fact, it is the highlight of my day. But, that aside, I want to help you, Zoe. Just tell me what I can do. Please, let me help you, baby. Please, let me make it all better for you. Whatever it is, just tell me what you need, and I will get it for you.” I told her.

Zoe looked away. Her expression hardened.

I reached for her face and forced her to look at me. Her eyes were filled with pain and tears.I pulled her closer and hugged her tightly.

I didn’t know the right words to say, but I wished there was something I could do to make things easier for her.

She cried silently against my shoulder. I stroked her back, soothing her.

“It’s just so hard. Ever since the accident. I’ve just been so alone. So alone. My good-for-nothing father left and then my mum…she can barely look at me. It kills me to see her in pain, Adrian. Then there’s my sister-, the house rent…. and I can’t keep up with everything. Everything is just too much and I don’t know what to do anymore. I can’t do this alone. I don’t want to. It hurts so much, Adrian.” I heard her cry.

I could only imagine the pain she was going through.

I felt horrible and sad for her. She was so young to be going through these. It wasn’t fair that she had to shoulder all this weight.

    I wanted to help her.

“You’re not alone anymore, Zoe. You have me. And I will do any and everything in my power to help you. Where’s the hospital? Let’s go and see your mum.” I said and started driving.

“The hospital is on the other side of town, Adrian. And we are both drenched and cold. Just drive me home, please. There’s nothing I can do for her now.  I’ll visit her tomorrow. I just wish I could have stayed with her today. Just take me home.”  She replied.

    I nodded.

Zoey gave me the address to her house and we drove in silence.

    I turned up the heat.

Her hand was cold and I reached out and held it.

We were still wet and cold from the rain, but at least, the heat was helping.

I could feel Zoey’s eyes on me. I didn’t have to look at her to know that. I could sense it.

I was still shocked from everything I learned about her.

There was so much more to Zoe.

    She was brave and strong.

How she was able to cope with so much, all alone. I admired her strength.

I didn’t think she was the type to open up easily. I was grateful that she trusted me enough to tell me all these.

    ****************************************

I finally arrived at Zoey’s apartment. I stared as the building.

It was a run-down area, far away from the comfort and luxury I was used to.

“You live here?” I asked as we got out of the car.

“Yes. I do.” Zoe replied nervously.

“I know it’s not like your fancy and huge mansion. It’s just what I can afford, Adrian.” She replied and walked ahead of me.

    I quickly followed behind her.

She led me up a narrow flight of stairs and into a small and dark hallway.

Zoe unlocked the door and entered.

I walked into the room behind her.

    I could feel her nervousness.

The room was small and simple. There was a kitchen to the left, a sofa in the middle, a TV in the corner, and two doors to the right, which I presumed were the bedrooms and the bathroom.

“This place looks very small. How do you live here?” I asked.

    Zoey shushed me.

“Keep your voice down, my sisters should be in bed by now. They’re asleep. And they mustn’t know that I brought you home with me, okay. So, shush, and please don’t wake them up.”

Zoey had just finished the sentence when two girls walked out of one of the bedrooms.

“Zoe.” One of them yawned. She was older than the other one and had a pigtails.

They both wore shorts and T-shirts and had the same facial expressions.

Both the girls looked very much like Zoe. It was obvious that they were sisters.

    They looked tired and sleepy.

The older one looked at me, then she looked at Zoe and a wide grin spread across her face.

    She elbowed the younger one.

“Zoey has a boyfriend.” She laughed.

The younger ones eyes widened and ears perked up.

“Zoey? Is the man your boyfriend?” She asked.

Zoey didn’t reply, instead she looked away and blushed.

    I was smiling.

The girls were cute and adorable.

“Why don’t you guys go back to bed?” Zoey said as she tried to usher them back into their room.

The girls shook their heads and stood their ground.

The younger one walked closer to me.

“Are you my sister’s boyfriend? Please be her boyfriend. She’s all alone and sad and needs a boyfriend. So, can you please be her boyfriend? Please? Pleeeeeease, I beg you. Pretty please, sir. Be my sister’s boyfriend, please. Can he, Zoe? Can he be your boyfriend, pleease. Please, Zoey, say yes. I want him to be your boyfriend. He’s very very handsome.” The girl said.

    “Penelope!” I heard Zoe say.

“Why are you both up anyway? You should be asleep. Why aren’t you sleeping? It’s past midnight. Penelope, it’s very late and you have school tomorrow. Get into bed. Now. Go. Go on. Both of you. Off to bed, right now. This isn’t up for discussion, get into bed. Shoo, shoo, go, go.” Zoey dragged the girls towards the room.

Both the girls protested and complained.

I found the entire scene adorable and funny.

They were obviously fond of me and wanted their big sister to date me.

    I couldn’t help but smile.

The girls were finally ushered back into their room.

I could hear the commotion even after Zoe shut the door.

When Zoe returned, her face was flushed red and she was smiling shyly.

“I’m so sorry about that. My sisters can be very annoying and nosy sometimes. They mean no harm. And they didn’t know what they were saying. It was nonsense. All of it. So, just forget it, okay.” Zoe blurted out.

Her cheeks were red and she was flustered.

“I don’t think they were saying nonsense, Zoe.” I said and moved closer to Zoe.

I wrapped my hands around her waist and pulled her close.

Zoe didn’t move. She looked up at me. Her face was flushed and her lips were moist and pink. She looked so beautiful.

I leaned forward and kissed her lips softly.

I could feel her tense under me.

    “Stop, Adrian.” She said.

But, I kept on kissing her.

I deepened the kiss, pushing her against the wall.

I pulled away slightly and stared into her eyes.

    Her pupils were dilated.

I could tell that she was turned on and was trying so hard to hide it.

Her mouth parted and her breathing hitched.

I could see the desire in her eyes.

“I love you, Zoe. And your sisters are right. I’m your boyfriend.” I said and pulled her into my arms again.

This time, I kissed her harder.

I lifted her in my arms.

Zoe gasped and I slipped my tongue in.

She wrapped her hands around my neck.

I walked her into the room.

We kissed all the way, until I pushed her on the bed.

I took off my shirt and threw it on the floor.

My wet jeans were sticking to me and were heavy.

I unzipped the pants and kicked them off.

Then I got on the bed and covered Zoe with my body.

Zoe stared at my body.I could feel her heart pounding. She bit her lip as her eyes roamed my chest.

I loved the effect I had on her.

I loved how turned on she was just by staring at me. I stroked her cheek.

“You should take off your clothes too. They are wet.” I whispered as I began to kiss her neck.

I sucked the sensitive skin on her neck, and bit gently.

Zoe m0aned. I continued kissing and sucking her soft neck.

My hand wandered her body. Her legs parted, and I settled between them.

I lifted her dress and pulled it over her head.

“See. Isn’t it better?” I said and threw it on the floor.

I took off her br@ and underwear, leaving her completely n+ked.

Zoe m0aned. I licked and bit her n+pples, before kissing her lips again.

Zoe’s hand ran through my hair and down my back.

She scratched me and I m0aned.

My hands explored her body. She was so soft and beautiful. Her skin was warm and inviting.

“The body heat is working. Your skin is so warm, Zoe. It feels so good against mine. So soft. You feel so fucking amazing.” I moaned.

Zoe pulled away from me and stared at my eyes.

I smiled and leaned in to kiss her again.

    She stopped me.

Then she placed a palm on my chest, holding me.

“Don’t you think we should shower first?” She asked.

    I groaned.

F+ck showering. I finally had her in my arms, naked, and she wanted to get up and go to the bathroom.

“No. We are going to f+ck and it is going to be messy. We can shower after. Let me just make love to you, baby. I need you, Zoe. F+ck the shower.” I said and began to kiss her again.

“But..” She tried to speak but I shut her up with a kiss.

    She stopped me and laughed.

“Adrian, it’s not that. But, I was wondering if you can take a shower with me.” Zoe said.

I paused and raised an eyebrow.

    “Are you serious?” I asked.

    Zoey nodded.

“Well, if that’s what you want.” I smirked and jumped off the bed.

    Zoe laughed and got up.

I grabbed her hand and led her into the bathroom.

As soon as we got in, I pinned her against the wall and kissed her passionately.

Zoe gasped and moaned as she kissed me back. I reached for the shower and switched it on.

    Cold water fell over us.

“Why the hell is the water so cold? Jesus! What the f+ck, Zoe?” I said as I pulled away from her.

    Zoe laughed.

“The shower was never hot, Adrian. This is the best we can do. I’m sorry. It’s either the water is cold or the electric heater won’t work. And I’m owing the electricity company, so…yeah.” Zoey shrugged.

    I frowned.

This was unacceptable. There was no way I was going to let her stay in this place.

Not when there was a better option.

She needed a house. She needed a better life. This was no way to live.

And I was going to also help her with her mother’s hospital bills and every other f+cking thing.

I would take care of everything.

    Starting with the cold shower.

I stepped out and pulled Zoey along. I opened the cupboard and rummaged through her drawers, until I found a pair of towels.

“Here.” I handed her a towel.

Then I took one for myself and dried off.

“What are you doing?” She asked.

“We are going out.” I said.

“Out? What do you mean? Aren’t we going to do it in here? In the shower.” She asked.

I ignored her and began to dress up again.

My clothes were still wet but I didn’t care. No way, was I going to let her shower in this cold place.

“What’s happening? Adrian, talk to me. Stop wearing your clothes. Where are you going?” She asked again.

“I’m taking you somewhere else. Somewhere with a warm and hot shower.” I told her.

“We can’t go anywhere, Adrian. My sisters are in the next room. If they wake up and find that I’m not home, they will panic.” Zoey said.

I paused and sighed. She had a point.

I paced around for a minute as I tried to come up with a solution.

    I finally did.

“You stay here and get dressed. I’ll be back in few minutes.” I told her.

“Where are you going? What’s happening, Adrian?” Zoey asked.

I didn’t respond. I just pulled her close and kissed her.

“I will be back, Zoey. Don’t worry.” I said and left the house.
